摘要： A three-dimensional microstructure includes a plurality of structure elements, each structure element having a width, a length and a height, wherein a significant proportion of the structure elements have height dimensions which exceed their width and length dimensions. A method of fabricating such a microstructure includes the steps of: forming a mask with a plurality of regions, each region having a predetermined degree of transparency to UV radiation; providing a substrate (5) coated with a thick layer (6) of UV resist material; using UV radiation to irradiate through each of the regions of the mask a corresponding region of the layer of UV resist; and developing the layer of UV resist to remove irradiated regions, wherein the depth of each region is dependent upon the degree of transparency of the corresponding region of the mask.

摘要： In the process for preparing an optical data card a light reflective layer (4) is formed on one surface of a protective film (5); a photoresist layer (7) is formed on the light reflective layer; the resulting laminate is subjected to photoetching to form, in said light reflective layer, an optical information pattern (3) composed of information pits. Then the protective film having the light reflective layer having the optical information pattern thus formed is bonded to a card substrate (1) so that the light reflective layer and the card substrate are in face to face relationship. In an alternative embodiment, the layers (4) and (7) are applied to the card substarte (1) and processed thereon before bonding with the protective film (5).

摘要： Diffractive indicia for a surface (1) comprising a plurality of small separate diffractive elements (2) and means for adhering the diffractive elements to the surface. Each diffractive element has a diffractive surface relief structure and is not separately resolvable to the human eye. The appearance of the diffractive indicia, when applied to the surface, changes when the viewing angle and/or angle of ilumination relative to the surface changes. In preferred arrangements, the diffractive indicia are incorporated in an ink or a transfer medium. A palette of diffractive indicia with different characteristic colours and other optical properties may be provided.
