This invention provides a novel DNA for preventing avian coccidiosis and use thereof. The novel DNA encodes an antigenic protein of Eimeria apical membrane antigen 1, and is used for DNA vaccine and/or for vaccine comprising the recombinant protein deduced from the said DNA sequence as a main ingredient. The chickens immunized with vaccines described herein can be induced immunity against coccidiosis.

Furthermore, the invention relates to antibodies against the polypeptides and to coccidiosis vaccines based upon said polypeptides. The present invention provides novel mouse interferon-inducible proteins (IFI206 and naturally occuring variants) modulated under conditions that affect metabolic status and the polynucleotides that identify and encode IFI206. The invention provides for genetically engineered expression vectors and host cells comprising the nucleic acid sequence encoding IFI206 and for a method for producing the protein. The invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions containing IFI206 and the use of such compositions for the prevention or treatment of diseases associated with the expression of IFI206. Additionally, the invention provides antisense molecules to IFI206 and their use in the treatment of diseases associated with the expression of IFI206. The invention also provides diagnostic assays that utilize polynucleotides that hybridize with naturally occurring sequences encoding IFI206 and antibodies that specifically bind to the protein.

Compositions comprising Eimeria proteins or variants/fragments of such proteins can be used to produce a coccidiosis vaccine. The proteins are present in the hydrophilic phase of a Triton X-1 14 extract of Eimeria sporozoites and have molecular masses of 26-30 kDa ± 5 kDA when determined by SDS PAGE under reducing conditions.

The invention is concerned with novel Eimeria proteins with immunogenic properties as well as with DNA sequences encoding these proteins. These proteins can be administered to chickens thereby protecting the chickens against coccidiosis. In addition the DNA encoding these proteins can be used for the preparation of a vector vaccine against coccidiosis.
