The compound is useful as a coupling and polymer processing agent and compositions containing the compound and methods of preparing polymeric material including the compound are also described.

A flame-retardent resin composition comprising a polystyrene type resin; one or more kinds of halogenated compounds; a chlorinated polyethylene; antimony trioxide; one or more of kinds of the compounds of the general formulas II, II, IV and V as defined in the specification; and one or more kinds of halogenated bisphenol type polycarbonate oligomers. The flame-retardant resin composition has been improved markedly in the light-resistance.

Thermoplastic compositions suitable for molding and flame retardant applications are described. They are composed of an aromatic polycarbonate resin and a flame retardant system comprised of a polyphenylene ether resin, an aromatic phosphate compound, and a stable brominated compound. The presence of the polyphenylene ether resin serves to enhance the effect of the other flame retardant components and as a result, even better flame retardance is achieved.

A resin composition comprises 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin and 9 to 55 parts by weight of an additive mixture comprising (A) 3 to 35 parts by weight of a tetrahalogenated bisphenol A carbonate oligomer, (B) 3 to 35 parts by weight of bis(tribromo-phenoxy) ethane and (C) 0.5 to 15 parts by weight of antimony trioxide. It is advantageous in respect to flame retardancy, impact resistance and light durability.
