The present invention is directed to a process for retanning leather comprising the steps of: a) providing tanned or pre-tanned leather b) treating the tanned leather of step a) with a composition comprising hollow microspheres, preferably as an aqueous composition, the hollow microspheres have a true density of from 0.01 to 0.10 g/cm 3 (25°C) and/or a bulk density of the dry powder of 0.005 to 0.06 g/cm 3 (25°C), c) drying, whereby the temperature of the leather during drying does not exceed 75 °C.as well as to leather obtained by said process.

Coated Fibrous Substrates The present invention provides a method of improving the adhesion of coatings to fibrous base materials. The method comprises treating a fibrous base material with one or more salt(s) of receptor species to provide a pre-coated fibrous base material comprising specific inorganic receptor sites within the fibrous base material. The one or more salt(s) of receptor species is selected from the groups comprising: (a) aluminium salts; (b) titanium salts; (c) zirconium salts; (d) iron salts; (e) soluble alkali silicates; or a combination thereof. The method further comprises coating the treated fibrous base material with a coating formulation comprising one or more compound(s) containing epoxy and alkoxysilane groups. The coating formulation acts as an adhesion promoter and cross-linker.

A process for preparing an aqueous dispersion of a silicone resin is disclosed by reacting a mixture containing an alkylalkoxysilane and a cationic alkoxysilane to form a self dispersing silicone resin and subsequently combining the silicone resin with water to form the dispersion. The resulting dispersions are useful for forming coatings on various substrates that are essentially free of co-surfactants or volatile organic solvents.
