A dyed polyester fiber composite structure having an enhanced brilliance and/or color depth, comprises (A) a dyed porous polyester fiber which has been produced (1) by preparing a polyester resin from a dicarboxylic acid component and a glycol component in the presence of a pore-forming agent containing 0.3 to 3 molar % of at least one phosphorus compound based on the molar amount of the dicarboxylic acid component, (2) by converting the polyester resin to a polyester fiber in which fine particles of the pore-forming agent are dispersed, by treating the polyester fiber with an aqueous alkali soludion so that at least 2% of the weight of the fiber is removed and a number of fine pores are formed in the fiber and (4) by dying the porous polyester fiber; and (8) a coating layer on the peripheral surface of the dyed porous polyester fiber, comprising a polymeric material having a smaller refractive index than that of the porous polyester fiber.

The present invention provides pile compositions comprising 2% by weight or more of porous expanded fibers with expansion ratio 3% or higher as fibers composing the pile part. This invention enables providing pile compositions which give excellent animal hair like feeling and external appearance; that is, pile part's lightness, bulkiness, soft touch, elasticity, coloring and loosenability.

A method of forming foamed fibers which comprises the steps of forming a melt of a polymer of fiberforming molecular weight in which is admixed a blowing agent, and a closed-cell-forming additive, extruding said melt through a spinnerette, quenching said melt downstream of said spinnerette under conditions at which bubbles form in said melt, and drawing said melt as it is quenched to produce a foamed fiber having fine bubbles contained therein is disclosed. The product fibers may contain substantially only closed-cells and/or substantially uniform cross sectional area cells.

The fibres and films comprise a polymeric matrix with a system of interconnecting micropores. and are highly loaded with particulate sorbents such as activated carbon The fibres and films are manufactured by forming a melt blend of the sorbent particles, the polymer and a selected diluent, spinning or extruding and drawing down the fibre of film, and extracting the diluent. The diluent functions to permit a high spin or extrusion draw down. to permit the subsequent cold drawing of fibres highly-loaded with active carbon, and to permit the fibre or film to be porosified. Optionally. the diluent may be extracted after or before cold drawing, or without any cold drawing. The fibres and films are highly sorbent are strong and durable and exhibit substantial strength over an appreciable degree of elongation.

57 Disclosed is a foamed synthetic fiber characterized in that an organic solvent solution of a thermoplastic polymer admixed with 3-100 weight percent of a compound scarcely soluble or insoluble in the aqueous coagulating bath for wet spinning, which is liquid under normal pressure and has a boiling point of 120°C or less, as foaming agent is injected as spinning dope into said aqueous coagulating bath and it is foamed in a drying atmosphere at the boiling point or more of the foaming agent and 100°C or more and has an expansion ratio of 3 percent or more, and the manufacturing method thereof. The foamed synthetic fiber of the present invention is light and bulky, being excellent in warmth-keeping and heat-insulating performance with its appearance, touch and development of color similar to those of an animal hair.

Description is made of an increased volume synthetic fibre consisting of a porous central core and a large number of short porous lateral threads integral with the core and distributed along the whole length of the fibre so as to form a voluminous branching structure. There is also a description of the procedure used to produce the fibre, which consists of the mixing of a synthetic polymer with an inflating agent which expands when heated, the spinning by means of melting the mixture which results in the inflation and fringing of the threads produced, caused by the inflating agent, followed by the drawing and fixing of the threads thus produced while they are still hot. Examples of the use of the fibres in question are given by filters and padding.
