The present teachings generally include a rotor assembly having a plurality of rotor sheets or layers mounted to a shaft, and methods of construction for a rotor assembly. Each rotor sheet or layer in the assembly may be provided with a central opening extending between the first and second sides through which the shaft extends. In one aspect, the rotor sheets or layers can be provided with a plurality of lobes extending away from the central opening, wherein each of the lobes can have a lobe opening extending through the thickness of the sheets or layers. In one example, the rotor sheets or layers can be rotationally stacked to form a helical rotor. In one example, the rotor sheets are formed from a pre-cured composite material and are bonded together with an adhesive.

A multistage pneumatic motor includes a shell (1) and a power output main shaft (2). The shell (1) is provided with a gas inlet (3) and a gas outlet (4). Two or more pneumatic motor stages (11, 12, 13) are installed in the shell (1). The first pneumatic motor stage is communicated with the gas inlet (3), and the last pneumatic motor stage is communicated with the gas outlet (4). Compressed gas enters the shell (1) through the gas inlet (3), drives the first pneumatic motor stage, then drives the next pneumatic motor stage, and is exhausted from the shell (1) through the gas outlet (4) at last. Every pneumatic motor stage is provided with a power output shaft (112, 122, 132) which is connected to the power output main shaft (2), so that the powers produced by all pneumatic motor stages (11, 12, 13) are jointed together and then output by the power output main shaft (2). The multistage pneumatic motor improves working efficiency greatly, saves energy source and reduces noise.

A portable mechanical ventilator having a ROOTS® blower is configured to provide a desired gas flow and pressure to a patient circuit. The mechanical ventilator includes a flow meter operative to measure gas flow produced by the ROOTS® blower and an exhalation control module configured to operate an exhalation valve connected to the patient circuit. A bias valve connected between the ROOTS® blower and the patient circuit is specifically configured to generate a bias pressure relative to the patient circuit pressure at the exhalation control module. The bias valve is further configured to attenuate pulsating gas flow produced by the ROOTS® blower such that gas flowing to the mass flow meter exhibits a substantially constant pressure characteristic. The bias pressure facilitates closing of the exhalation valve at the start of inspiration, regulates positive end expiratory pressure during exhalation, and purges sense lines via a pressure transducer module.
