A fluid transport device defining a centerline axis therethrough includes at least one rotatable member including a first portion and a second portion axially opposite the first portion. The fluid transport device also includes at least one stationary member positioned proximate the at least one rotatable member. The at least one rotatable member and the at least one stationary member define at least one stage. The at least one rotatable member defines at least one pressure balance port extending from the second portion to the first portion. The at least one pressure balance port is configured to substantially equalize a fluid pressure proximate the second portion with a pressure of a fluid proximate the first portion.

The invention relates to a submersible, comprising an electrochemical battery activated by an electrolyte, which is to produce the electrical power for powering said submersible, the electrochemical battery comprising: an electrochemical cell (3) for producing the electrical power; a tank (4) for containing the electrolyte; and a means (7) for inducing the flow of the electrolyte between the electrochemical cell (3) and the tank (4), said flow-inducing means including an axial-flow pump axially arranged in the tank and including a motor-driven wheel rotatably mounted in a diffuser, characterized in that the wheel of the pump is not axisymmetric.

A sealless centrifugal blood pump (10) is provided in which a rotatable impeller (64) is supported in a pump housing (12) by fluid bearings (30, 182) during operation. Rotational movement of the impeller (64) is accomplished with an inverted motor (38) for magnetically driving of the impeller (64) and maintenance of the axial running position of the impeller (64) relative to the housing (12). In an alternative embodiment, the axis of the rotor housing (18) is radially displaced relative to the axes of drive element (126) of the motor and the motor housing (130).

A process for producing a vinyl chloride-based polymer by suspension polymerizing vinyl chloride monomer or the like while circulating a reaction mixture in a polymerization vessel by a circulating pump through a circulation line led out from the polymerization vessel to extend through a heat exchanger back to the vessel, wherein the pump comprises a conical hub (15) and an impeller comprised of a spirally shaped single blade (16) provided on the hub (15), and, during polymerization, the stirring energy (A) applied to the reaction mixture by the stirrer in the polymerization vessel and the circulating energy (B) exerted to the reaction mixture by the circulating pump in the circulation line are controlled so as to satisfy the relationships:
(A) + (B) = from 1.5 to 4.0 kW/t (1), and
(B) / [(A) + (B)] = from 0.1 to 0.6 (2).
Polymer scale is prevented from being deposited on inner surfaces of the heat exchanger, circulation piping, circulating pump or the like.

A vertical pump (1) having spiral blades (10, 11 and 12) fixed to the distal end of the main shaft (2) thereof. One or more spiral blades (10, 11 and 12) are arranged to be well-balanced with respect to said main shaft (2) of the pump, whereby a flow passage between spiral blades is wide, of no-closure type, and thus makes the pump particularly appropriate to sewage disposal.
