    摘要: Methods and apparatuses consistent with the present invention recover a clock signal (160) from a variable bit rate data signal by estimating, in the time domain, the bit rate of the data signal, and based on the estimated variable bit rate, determining a center frequency of a narrow-band filter (330) for extracting the clock signal from the data signal (155). A clock recovery circuit (300) consistent with the present invention extracts a clock signal from a variable bit rate data signal by estimating a minimum time interval between transition (320) in the data signal, generating a plurality of pulses that correspond respectively to transitions in the data signal, adjusting the duration of each of the pulses based on the estimated minimum time interval (310) and inputting into a narrow-band filter (320) the adjusted pulses (RS2), determining the center frequency of the narrow-band filter (320) based on the estimated minimum time interval, and extracting in the narrow-band filter (320) the clock signal (160) from the adjusted pulses.

    摘要: In one embodiment a system is provided for multirate communications allowing for different data rates for each data unit on a channel, including both data units from different mobile units and from the same mobile unit. A sending unit preferably begins by determining the rate at which to start communications, and monitors, for example by use of an RSSI detector, for an indication that the rate should be changed. A rate adjustor implements the change, and can make changes as frequently as every data unit. The encoder applies the appropriate rate and inserts a rate indicator indicative of the data or encoding rate, and sends the data unit. On receiving data units, the receiving unit first determines the rate for each data unit or group of units, then appropriately decodes the data unit(s). As a result, the actual data throughput can be adjusted to permit optimized throughput.

    摘要: A data processing system includes a plurality of stations (412), first and second star couplers (416A, 416B) and first and second pairs of transmission lines (414A, 414B) associated with each station (412). The first pair of transmission lines (414A) is connected between its associated station (412) and the first star coupler (416A) and the second pair of transmission lines (414B) is connected between its associated station (412) and the second star coupler (416B). Each pair of transmission lines includes a first transmission line (418A, 418B) for carrying signals from its associated station (412) and a second transmission line (420A, 420B) for carrying signals to its associated station (412). Each station (412) includes a plurality of subsystems (424A, 424B, 424C), coupled by respective interface circuits (428) to both pairs of transmission lines. The system provides reduced transmission interference and high reliability. The star couplers are preferably optical but may be electrical or magnetic star couplers.
