The present invention relates to process of the electrochemical synthesis of the silver(ll) salts of high purity, the methods of synthesis of silver(ll) hydrates of high purity, products produced by these methods, and the use of so obtained silver(ll) compounds to modify the molecular structures of organic compounds including waste disposal. A method of electrochemical synthesis of a silver(II) salts with the electrolysis of the silver(l) salts or hydrogensalts of silver(l) in the acid solution containing the same anion as electrolyzed salt, preferably oxoanion or oxofluoroanion with inorganic element in a high degree of oxidation. Use of concentrated acid solution, preferably at a concentration of above 80%. The invention includes silver(II) salts obtained by this method. Process of the synthesis of silver(ll) salts hydrates with expose of silver(II) or silver(I/If) salts to liquid water, ice or water vapour, under strictly controlled conditions. Preferably, the gas solution with a concentration of water vapor 0-100 g/m 3, for 1-200 hours. The invention includes silver(II) salts hydrates obtained by this method. A method of modifying the molecular structures of organic compounds using an oxidising agent is based in on the oxidative initiation of a reagent with a redox compound, using at least one of silver(ll) compound. The invention relates to a method of recovering silver and a method of controlling a leaching process for recovering silver from a direct zinc leach residue, an apparatus for recovering silver from a direct zinc leach residue, a control system for implementing the control method, and a computer program. The method comprising the steps of: 1) a silver leaching step, wherein the direct zinc leach residue is subjected to oxidative chloride leaching, having the following conditions: 1) chloride concentration of the leach solution in the range of 25-70 g/l ii) pH of the leach solution in the range 1.6 - 2.6 iii) redox potential of less than 460 mV (Pt vs. Ag/AgCI) 2) a silver recovery step, wherein silver is recovered from the silver containing leach solution.

It also relates to a process for making a colloidal dispersion comprising providing a silica sol, adding a solution of silver nitrate to the silica sol under agitation yielding a colloidal dispersion with silver ions adsorbed on the surface of the silica particles. The dispersion is usable as a biocide in e.g. coatings, adhesives and sealants, in surface treatment and impregnation of organic materials, in surface treatment and impregnation of inorganic materials, in textiles, garments and shoes, in medical disposables, in plastics and rubbers, in water and air purification, and in crop protection.

Described herein are devices, systems and methods for treating disease and/or infection by the release of silver from an implant over an extended period of time. In particular, the devices described herein may be used to treat infections such as osteomyelitis by the controlled release of silver ions from multiple sites of an extended-use implant. This implant typically includes a plurality of arms that both anchor and help distribute the released ions within the tissue. Power may be applied to release the silver ions into the tissue.
