One electromagnet of the pair of electromagnets is energized based on a detected result of the pair of sensor switches to move the first permanent magnet adjacent to the energized electromagnet in a predetermined direction, by an attractive force and a repulsive force between the energized electromagnet and the first permanent magnet so as to rotate the first disk-shaped rotation body.

Disclosed in the present invention is a shaft construction for motor-generators and alternators that provides effective airflow and improved overall cooling without the need for an external fan. The shaft comprises a plurality of circumferentially disposed centrifugal fan blades and longitudinal cooling channels. As the shaft rotates, the centrifugal fan blades pull the air inwardly across the winding end-turns on one end of the stator into the housing and propels the w at high pressure through the cooling channels along the shaft to cool the rotor diner circumferential surfaces, winding end-turns on the other end of the stator and bearings mounting surfaces, and exhausts through the exhaust vents on the ends of the housing. The airflow path provides effective cooling of the stator windings, rotor, shaft and bearings that prevents high temperature gradients, thus resulting in improved motor-generator performance.

An electric machine is disclosed integrated to rotate with a shaft of a gas turbine engine. In one form the electric machine is integrated with a fan of the gas turbine engine. A rotor of the electric machine can be disposed at the end of the fan blades and the stator integrated into a flow path forming surface of the gas turbine engine. In one form the windings of the electric machine can change configuration permitting some windings to be placed in parallel with one or more other windings, and then connected together in series with remaining windings, if any. The voltage of the electric machine can change as a result of a change in configuration of the windings. A moveable member can also be used to alter a magnetic field produced from the electric machine when operated such that a voltage can be changed as a result of altering the magnetic field.
