Abstract:
A medical pressure-sensitive adhesive composition having excellent re-adhesion property, and also excellence in both the peel adhesion property and the low skin stimulus property, a process for producing the same, and a medical tape are provided. In the medical tape, a medical pressure-sensitive adhesive composition containing acrylic polymer and acrylic oligomer is laminated on a substrate, wherein the medical pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is prepared by cross-linking an intermediate composition containing an acrylic polymer having a cross-linkable functional group and an acrylic oligomer containing 10 to 40 percent by mole of vinyl monomer with a lactam ring through the use of a cross-linking agent, and wherein this medical tape is made by compounding the acrylic oligomer in the range of 50 to 700 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of acrylic polymer, while the number average molecular weight of the acrylic polymer is set at a value within the range of 300,000 to 1,500,000, and the number average molecular weight of the acrylic oligomer is set at a value within the range of 1,000 to 10,000.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressure-sensitive adhesive for medical applications and an adhesive tape for medical applications, and a method of preparing the adhesive. SOLUTION: The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for medical applications comprises a blend of at least two components comprised of about 5 to about 95 wt.% of a first component comprised of at least one acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive, and about 5 to about 95 wt.% of a second component comprised of either of (a) at least one elastomer with a tackifier resin, or (b) at least one thermoplastic elastomer. Wherein, the resulting pressure-sensitive adhesive demonstrates a T 0 of at least 1 N/dm and a T 48 of less than 12 N/dm when adhered to the skin. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is either prepared in the presence of a solvent, or is alternatively prepared by melt blending. A method of preparing such an adhesive is also disclosed. Abstract:
Acrylic polymers comprising a non-primary hydroxyl functional monomer and low Tg alkyl acrylate monomers are useful in adhesive compositions that find use in skin contact applications.
Abstract:
A polymerized microemulsion pressure sensitive adhesive composition is described. The composition preferably has a biocontinuous structure of a continuous phase of a hydrophobic pressure sensitive adhesive polymer and a continuous phase of a hydrophilic polymer. The bulk properties of both polymers are retained in the bicontinuous structure. The composition is prepared from a microemulsion comprising a free-radically ethylenically unsaturated polar amphiphilic or hydrophilic monomer or oligomer in the aqueous phase, a free-radically ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer, having a glass transition temperature suitable for forming a pressure sensitive adhesive, in the oil phase, water, and surfactant. Uses for the pressure sensitive adhesive composition include biomedical articles, such as biomedical electrodes, medical skin coverings, and pharmaceutical delivery devices, and industrial articles, such as zinc/adhesive tapes used for cathodic protection of rebars embedded in concrete.
Abstract:
Hydrocolloid adhesive compositions are disclosed comprising a hydrophobic unsaturated aliphatic homopolymer, a compatible tackifier, and at least one hydrocolloid absorbent. The compositions have enhanced resistance to breakdown by body fluids, adjustable absorbency, improved adhesive and cohesive properties, as well as a reduced tendency to leave an adhesive residue after application. Also disclosed are wound dressings, ostomy or prosthesis adhesives, methods of using wound dressings, and methods for forming the hydrocolloid adhesive compositions.
