Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an optimum squish flow and reverse switch flow to realize a satisfactory stratified combustion by setting the clearance between the top surface of a piston and the upper wall of a cylinder in the last stage of compression stroke large in the vicinity of the fuel injection valve-side side wall of a cavity, in comparison to the vicinity of the opposite side wall thereof. SOLUTION: In the last stage of compression stroke, the top surface of a piston is approached to the upper wall of a cylinder to generate a squish flow between the both. The clearance between the piston top surface and the cylinder upper wall in the last stage of compression stroke is set large in the vicinity h1 of the fuel injection valve-side side wall 8b of a cavity 8, in comparison to the vicinity h2 of the opposite side wall 8c thereof. According to this, the first squish flow carried to the cavity 8 from the fuel injection valve-side side wall 8b of the cavity 8 is weakened, and the second squish flow carried to the cavity from the opposite side wall 8c of the cavity 8 is strengthened. Further, since the cavity 8 is off-centered from the piston top surface to provide a relatively wide area part in the vicinity of the opposite side wall 8c of the cavity 8, the second squish flow is further strengthened.

A control section 22 and an actuator 24 control throttle opening degree θ of the throttle valve 20 in accordance with accelerator operation amount, and its maximum throttle opening degree θmax (Ne) is restricted based on the information of the optimum throttle opening degree θ opt (Ne) which corresponds to each number of revolution Ne stored in the memory part 30 to improve output in each number of revolution of the internal combustion engine.

The operational condition of the engine in the form cylinder operation and that in the reduced-cylinder operation are detected from the amount of the intake air, and the feedforward control to realize the forced vibration of the mount member 3 according to the detected operational condition is conducted to reduce the vibration generated by the operation of the engine 1.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate restriction of decrease of the number of working cylinders more than required and to increase a fuel consumption reducing effect by way of partial cylinder operation by prohibiting variation of the number of the working cylinders until throttle opening becomes lower than a set value at the time when vehicle speed is lower than a set value. CONSTITUTION:An engine main body 1 has a large number of cylinders respectively provided on plural cylinder banks 1A, 1B. An intake port of each of the cylinders is respectively installed on a common intake pipe 4 through an intake branch pipe 3, and simultaneously, on each of them, a fuel injection valve 3a is respectively provided. Furthermore, on the intake pipe 4, a throttle valve 6 is provided. An ECU 30 to respectively control the fuel injection valves 3a and the throttle valve 6 controls the number of working cylinders. In this case, at the ECU 30, vehicle speed by engine speed and throttle opening by a sensor 6a and each set value are compared with each other. Consequently, at the time when the vehicle speed is lower than the set value, until the time when the throttle opening becomes lower than the set value, variation of the number of the working cylinders is prohibited.

CONSTITUTION:In an operative cylinder quantity control means A, by stopping supply of fuel with intake air left as fed partly to cylinders in accordance with an operating condition of an engine 1, its operative cylinder quantity is controlled. In a load detecting means B, based on an intake condition of the engine 1, its load is detected Further in a rotational speed detecting means C, a rotational speed of the engine 1 is detected. In an ignition timing control means D, based on the detected load and rotational speed of the engine 1, its ignition timing is controlled. Here in the ignition timing control means D, under a condition of equal load and rotational speed, the ignition timing is controlled so as to advance in accordance with decreasing an operative cylinder quantity. In this way, the ignition timing at the time of partial cylinder operation can be maintained optimum.

While the feeding of evaporation fuel to paused cylinders is being prevented at the time of partial cylinder operation, conducting canister purge at all times can be realized.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the vibration of an intercooler by severally fittedly attaching the inlet duct and outlet duct of the intercooler into the outlet section of a supercharger and the inlet section of an intake manifold from their upper side. CONSTITUTION:A supercharger 2 is attached to the one side of a cylinder block 6. On one hand, an intake manifold 4 is attached to the side of a cylinder head 7 positioned on the side opposite to the supercharger 2. The inlet duct 3 of an intercooler 1 is connected to the supercharger 2. The outlet duct 5 of the intercooler 1 is connected to an intake minifold 4. The outlet section of the supercharger 2 is opened upward, and the inlet section of the intake manifold 4 is opened upward. The inlet duct 3 and outlet duct 5 of the intercooler 1 are severally fittedly attached into the outlet section 2b of the supercharger 2 and the inlet section 4a of the intake manifold 4 from their upper side through cushioning members 10, 11. Thus, the vibration of the intercooler can be reduced to improve the reliability of an internal combustion engine and to reduce noise caused by the vibration.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To scavenge the whole space inside a combustion chamber in a two-cycle engine. CONSTITUTION:Three exhaust valves 9, 10, 11 are arranged on one side of the inner wall face 3a of a cylinder head, and two intake valves 12, 13 are arranged on the other side of the inner face 3a of the cylinder head. Additionally, one intake valve 14 is arranged in the central area of the inner wall face 3a of the cylinder head. Openings of the respective intake valves 12, 13, 14 formed on the exhaust valves 9, 10, 11 side are covered by mask walls 16, 19, 22, and then a notch 22a where fresh air can enter the central area of the mask wall 22 for the intake valve 14 is formed. The peripheral part of the combustion chamber is scavenged by the fresh air which flows in from the intake valves 12, 13, and the central space of the combustion chamber is scavenged by the fresh air which flows in from the opening of the intake valve 14 opposite to the mask wall 22 and the notch 22a.

On the other hand, proper-numbered exhaust valves 9, 10 are set up at the other side of the inner wall surface 3a. In the above structure, two straight lines L1a, L2b, extend through a center C of the inner wall surface 3a from the shade center of these air feed valves 12, 13. In addition, each of two second straight lines L1a, L2b, the angle of which with the first straight line becomes the maximum, among each straight line extending so as to contact with an outer peripheral edge of the shade part of each exhaust valve being situated at the air feed valve side in relation to the symmetrical plane K-K from the shade part center likewise, is set up. Each opening of these air feed valves 12, 13 in an area held by respective straight lines is covered with each of mask walls 16 and 19.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To scavenge already burnt gas in good condition by providing a pair of intake valves on one side in a cylinder head, providing at least three exhaust valves on the other side thereof, in symmetric positions respectively, providing a mask wall at the opening port of one side intake valve opposing to the exhaust valve on one side of symmetric surfaces, also providing a mask on the other side thereof in the same way, so as to make new air flow in a loop shape. CONSTITUTION:Intake valves 9 to 11 are provided on one side of a cylinder head inner wall surface, exhaust valves 12 to 14 are provided on the other side, and the valves 9 to 14 are provided symmetrically in relation to a symmetric surface K-K. For example, the opening port of the intake valve 9 is covered with a cylindrical inner circumferencial wall part so as to form mask wall 16. The mask wall 16 covers a range within straight lines L1a, L1b which hold inward the whole of the umbrella parts of the exhaust valves 12, 14 from the umbrella part center of the intake valve 9, and a mask angle alpha1 becomes a minimum value. Thus new air flows in a loop shape so as to scavenge already burnt gas in the circumferential rim part of a combustion chamber in good condition.
