PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose various uses of tetrafluoropropenes, particularly (HFO-1234) in a variety of applications, including refrigeration equipment.SOLUTION: A composition comprises: (a) at least one fluoroalkene of Formula I: XCFzR3-z (I) where X is a C1, C2, C3, C4 or C5 unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted radical, each R is independently Cl, F, Br, I or H, and z is 1 to 3, provided that if Br is present in the compound then the compound includes no hydrogen and further provided that the compound has at least four (4) halogen substituents; and (b) at least one additional component selected from the group consisting of lubricants, stabilizers, metal passivators, corrosion inhibitors, flammability suppressants or the like. The materials are generally useful as refrigerants for heating and cooling, as blowing agents, as aerosol propellants, as solvent composition, and as fire extinguishing and suppressing agents.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azeotropic mixture which is not fractionated by boiling and evaporation and exhibits a low or even zero ozone depletion potential and a relatively low global warming potential.SOLUTION: A composition contains 75-100 wt.% of a trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene component in combination with 0-25 wt.% of an alcohol selected from the group consisting of methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, tert-butanol, isobutanol, 2-ethyl hexanol and any combination thereof. The composition has azeotropic properties and used as an aerosol propellant and a blowing agent for a thermoplastic foam.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fumigant which replaces methyl bromide, functions as a drop-in substitute, and therefore makes an existing methyl bromide device and system to be usable. SOLUTION: The fumigant includes an azeotropic or azeotropic-like composition comprising a mixture of methyl iodide, 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, and optionally one or more of fluorocarbons and/or hydrofluorocarbons. The composition is present as a gas, at a temperature of about 30°C or below. The composition serves as a non-ozone-depleting gaseous fumigant which is useful in a variety of applications, in place of methyl bromide. The composition serves as a drop-in replacement for gaseous methyl bromide, providing the benefits of a methyl iodide fumigant, while also utilizing an existing methyl bromide device. SOLUTION: This azeotropic and the azeotrope-mixture-like compositions are comprises about 1-50 wt.% of hydrogen fluoride, and about 50-99 wt.% of organic portion comprising substantially a mixture of 2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and 2-chloro-1,1,1,2-tetrafluoropropane (the 2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene is contained by an amount of about 50-90 wt.% in the organic portion, and the 2-chloro-1,1,1,2-tetrafluoropropane is contained by an amount of about 10-50 wt.% in the organic portion).
