    Abstract: PURPOSE:To secure such speeds of forward five-speed and backward one-speed that a gear ratio of the maximum speed is 1, by performing a speed change in making three sets of planetary gear mechanisms act on organically through first-third clutches and first and second brakes. CONSTITUTION:An input shaft 60 is connected to a ring gear 32, a carrier 34 and a sun gear 31 of a first planetary gear mechanism 30 via clutches C1-C3 and also connected to a sun gear 41 of a second planetary gear mechanism 40 via the clutch C3, respectively. And, a carrier 54 of a third planetary gear mechanism 50 is connected to an output shaft 80, and they are organically combined together by each selective actuation of these clutches C1-C3 and brakes B1 and B2. First gear speed is secured by actuation of C1 and B1, second gear speed by C2 and B1, third gear speed by C1 and B2, fourth gear speed by C2 and B2, fifth gear speed of a gear ratio 1 by C2 and C3, and backward speeds by C3 and B1, respectively. Thus, a range of the gear ratio is extendible and, what is more, the transmission efficiency of power is improvable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make speeds shiftable to the specified stepped one at the time of stepped shifting as well as to make quick acceleration performable at times of starting and reacceleration, by making a continuously variable transmission freely shiftable to each mode of stepless shifting and stepped shifting, and controlling it to go along a minimum fuel consumption rate curve at the time of the stepless shifting. CONSTITUTION:A mode selective operating device 68 is installed in a continuously variable speed controller provided with a V-pulley and an endless belt, making it free of selectively transfer to a stepless shifting mode and a stepped shifting mode by hand. When the stepless shifting mode is selected, a controlling device 50 performs automatic stepless shifting along a minimum fuel consumption rate curve on the basis of various engine items such as a throttle sensor 56, a tachometer 58 or the like. When the stepped shifting mode is selected, a continuously variable transmission by an endless belt is made shiftable to the stepped shifting mode so as to become a constant transmission ratio on the basis of a manipulated variable of an accelerator 52 and car speed. At times of starting and reaccelerating, it is selected to the stepped shifting mode whereby quick acceleration is securable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce a device in size and to improve the efficiency of assembly by fixing the first clutch disc an the second clutch disc either to an input shaft or to an output shaft by a common clutch hub fixed to one of the input and output shafts. CONSTITUTION:In a double clutch device 12, the first rotor 38 and the second rotor 30 which function as a clutch plate are fixed to an output shaft 18 by the second hub 32 common to the rotors, and only the second hub 32 for power transmission is fixed to the output shaft 18. The double clutch device 12 is assembled in such a manner that a boss portion 51 is disposed in a positioning hole 33, so that the device 12 can be reduced in thickness and weight. At the time of assembly, in case of inserting the output shaft 18 in a clutch case 26, only the output shaft 18 may be spline-fitted to the single second hub 32 to improve the efficiency of assembly.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the construction by furnishing a two sets of planetary gearing mechanism of double pinion type, coupling No.1 carrier with No.2 sun gear and No.1 sun gear with No.2 carrier, and operating a clutch and brake selectively. CONSTITUTION:Existing invention includes No.1 planetary gearing mechanism 1 on the input shaft 13 side and No.2 planetary gearing mechanism 2 on the output shaft 15 side, wherein No.1 carrier 11 is coupled solidly with No.2 sun gear 4 and No.1 sun gear 3 with No.2 carrier 12, and No.1-3 clutches C1-C3 and No.1-3 brakes B1-B3 are put on selectively to perform multi-step speed change with six steps forward. For ex., C1, B1 causes the first speed, C2, B2 the second, C3, B1 the third, C2, B3 the fourth, C2, C3 the fifth, C3, B33 the sixth, and C1, B2 backward. This simplifies the total configuration, and multi-step speed change with five or six steps forward can be obtained.

CONSTITUTION:Between the crankshaft 16 of an engine 10 and the input shaft 18 of a non-continuously variable transmission 14 are provided in parallel both the No.1 clutch 22 which is being engaged all the time during the normal running of a vehicle, and is disengaged during the period the transmission 14 is being shifted, and the No.2 clutch 24 which is being always disengaged during the vehicle is in normal running and is allowed to be in a partially engaged state during the period the transmission 14 is being shifted. Hereby, even during the period the transmission 14 is being shifted, the power output of the engine 10 can be transmitted by means of the No.2 clutch 24, and accordingly, the shock of gear shift on the driver when the transmission 14 is shifted can be improved so as to become a more pleasant one for the driver.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the diameter of an output shaft and to reduce the outside diameter and weight of a device by forming an oil path of the first clutch in a housing of a speed change gear and an oil path of the second clutch in an output shaft, so that only one oil path is provided in the output shaft. CONSTITUTION:The first clutch 22 is disposed on the speed change gear side in a clutch case 26, and the first clutch 22 is connected directly to an oil path 44 formed in a housing 43 of a speed change gear. The second clutch 24 is disposed on the engine side in the clutch case 26, and the second clutch 24 and the oil path formed in the housing of the speed change gear are connected to each other through an oil path 48 formed in the output shaft 18. Thus, only one oil path for the second clutch 24 is disposed in the output shaft 18, so that the diameter of the output shaft 18 can be reduced, and the outside diameter and weight of a double clutch device can be also reduced.

A thin-walled cylindrical member 30 is engaged in the annular space between the outer yoke 24 and the inner yoke 28 to define an outer gap 32 and an inner gap 34 for receiving a magnetic powder between the cylindrical member 30 and the inner circumferential surface of the outer yoke 24 and between the cylindrical member 30 and the outer circumferential surface of the inner yoke 28, respectively.
