    Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate exhausted fine particles collected in a filter through effective burning thereof by making exhaust gas to flow through either one of branch exhaust pipes, and heating the filter with a burner provided on the other side of the branch exhaust pipe, in regeneration of a filter. CONSTITUTION:Fine particles in exhaust gas are collected from the full quantity of exhaust gas flowing through filter member 8 by opening the first exhaust pipe 7a by a controller 13 through switching valve 9. A part of exhaust gas is made to recirculate in a suction pipe 3a through EGR pipe 1 and EGR valve 12. On the other hand, when a travel distance and/or a fuel consumption detected with a sensor 17 come to the specified values. Burning is set with a burner 10 facing the first exhaust pipe 7a as well as the second exhaust pipe 7b is opened. Thereby, the filter member 3a can efficiently be heated by the burner 10 at a state where the exhaust gas of low temperature not flowing through the filter member 8, to eliminate fine particles on the filter member 8 by burning.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To regenerate a filter reliably through simple structure by arranging a gate valves in a path communicating between the upstream and the downstream sides of a filter for catching the particulates in the exhaust gas and in a path communicating between the vicinity of the inlet end section of the filter and an exhaust path. CONSTITUTION:An upstream partition wall 12 and a downstream partition wall 13 are provided in a housing 11 while a filter 16 is inserted between both partition walls 12, 13 and an electrical heater 17 is arranged near the outlet section 16b of the filter 16. A hole 19 is made on the upstream side of the upstream partition wall 12 so as to arrange a first valve 21 while an outlet port 22 formed on the downstream side of the first and second paths 14, 15 is communicated to an exhaust pipe and the donwnstream side of the first path 14 is opened/closed by means of the second valve 23. The first and second valves are closed when the particulates are caught, but they are opened when the filter is regenerated to counter flow the exhaust gas from the outlet side of the filter.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of stress and prevent breakage in a conductive ceramic element heater by conductively fixing one end of said heater to a case while supporting the other end slidably in a thermally expanding direction by means of an insulator and connecting a lead wire to it. CONSTITUTION:An earth electrode 24b is brazed to one end of a conductive ceramic element heater 21 and inserted into an electrode inserting hole 29b provided on a heater case 20 while being fixed to a heater case 20 by means of an insulating cap 35. And, a positive electrode 24a is brazed to the other end of the heater 21 and inserted into an electrode inserting hole 29a, and a lead wire 30 is connected to it while the heater 21 is slidably supported by means of the insulating cap 35. Thereby, the generation of stress can be suppressed and breakage can be prevented in the heater.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent hydrocarbons from flowing into the downstream side of NOx occlusion reduction catalyst. SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control converter 10 is placed on an exhaust path 3 of an internal combustion engine 1. The exhaust emission control converter 10 is configured to arrange a NOx occlusion reduction catalyst 7, HC absorbent member 11, oxidation catalyst 13 in this order from the upstream inside a casing. The HC absorbent member 11 selectively absorbs heavy hydrocarbon components among the exhaust air, and when the temperature rises it converts the absorbed heavy hydrocarbons into light hydrocarbons and emits it. When a reductant (fuel) is supplied from a reductant supply device 9 into an exhaust path, at the upstream of the converter 10 at low temperatures, hydrocarbons that did not react on NOx occlusion reduction catalyst 7 flow to the downstream of the catalyst 7. Among those hydrocarbons, heavy components are adsorbed into the HC adsorbent member, while light component is purified further by oxidation catalyst at the downstream side. Hydrocarbons emitted from the HC adsorbent member after the temperature rises are purified by oxidation catalyst on the downstream side, therefore emission of hydrocarbons into the air is prevented completely.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a high particulate collecting rate by arranging a particulate collecting filter in each exhaust branch passage for communicating an exhaust collecting part with each cylinder, and communicating the respective exhaust branch passages, positioned on the exhaust upper reaches of each filter, with one another by communicating passages. SOLUTION: In an exhaust manifold 20 composed of an exhaust collecting part 21 and exhaust branched passages 22-25 communicating the exhaust collecting part 21 with each cylinder, particulate collecting filters 42-45 are interposed at upward extended parts of the respective exhaust branched passages 22-25, and adjacent exhaust side exhaust branch passage parts 22a-25a are communicated by communicating passage 32-34. The exhaust pressure of the exhaust branched passage part 22a connected to the cylinder in an exhaust stroke is higher than the exhaust pressure of the other three exhaust branched passage parts 23a-25a, but the exhaust pressure of the respective exhaust branched passage parts 22a-25a are made almost equal by communicating the exhaust branched passage parts 22a-25a with one another so as to impede contraflow of exhaust gas.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a small-sized, inexpensive particulate trap for a diesel engine satisfying all the characteristics, particulate collecting performance, pressure loss due to the collection, regenerating performance, and durability. CONSTITUTION: Nonwoven fabric of heat resistant metal fiber is used as a filter medium, and metal reducing taper cylindrical filters 2-7 made of the filter medium are concentrically arranged so that the taper directions can be alternately opposite. In the cylindrical filters 2-7, a small diameter side end part of each filter is connected to a large diameter side end part one inside thereof to alternately make clearances between the filters come to a dead end on the inlet and the outlet sides of waste gas. The filter element 1 thus constituted is fitted in a metal container installed in midway of a discharge system to constitute a particulate trap. A metal three-dimensional net-shaped perforated body having air permeability is fitted to the filter medium or on one side or both sides thereof, and a catalyst is deposited on the perforated body, allowing it to be also used as a catalytic converter.
