Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compatibility between white smoke prevention and catalyst control appropriate, in a catalyst control device for an internal combustion engine executing fuel addition prohibition.
SOLUTION: This catalyst control device for the internal combustion engine is constituted such that when fuel accumulation quantity Fhp inside an exhaust system by fuel addition becomes larger than reference accumulation quantity Xf ("YES" in S152), fuel addition is prohibited (S156), and thereby further fuel increase in the fuel accumulation quantity Fhp is inhibited. Addition prohibition time Tx is set such that as cumulative intake air quantity GAhp becomes larger, timing of release of fuel addition prohibition becomes earlier by a map Maptx (S162). Due to this, catalyst control can be appropriately executed by releasing fuel addition prohibition as early as possible while white smoke is effectively prevented. Accordingly, the compatibility between white smoke prevention and catalyst control can be made appropriate.

When the reflected waves are transmitted from the fuel injection valve side to the common rail side, the pressure on the fuel injection valve side is higher than the pressure on the common rail side, and the valve element 83 is positioned at a position expressed in a figure b, and transmission of the reflected waves is restricted. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifying device for an internal combustion engine to suppress and restore poisoning of a catalyst 12 in an exhaust gas passage 4 by trapping a sulfur content in blow-by gas. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine 1 is provided with an S trap 11 to trap a sulfur content in blow-by gas situated in a blow-by gas passage 3 through which blow-by gas 9 is re-circulated from a crank case 8 to a suction system (a suction passage 2). Sulfur content in the blow-by gas is trapped by an SOx trap agent in the S trap 11. As a result, S-poisoning of an exhaust catalyst 12 can be suppressed, and a frequency to effect S-poisoning restoration treatment can be remarkably decreased. Further, since an SOx trap agent can trap not only a sulfur content in the blow-by gas 9 but also a phosphorus content, lowering of oxidation activity of the catalyst can be suppressed and ash accumulated at the exhaust catalyst 12 can be also reduced. The sulfur poisoning control means controls the temperature rise of the NOx occluding agent when the execution acceptance/rejection estimating means estimates that the engine operating condition can perform the sulfur poisoning recovery control.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of excessive dilution of unburned fuel in lubricating oil when secondary injection is effected for unburnt fuel serving as a reducing agent added to a catalyst provided in an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: If the period from the date of the previous secondary injection to the date of the present secondary injection is longer than the period required for the unburned fuel diluted in the lubricating oil to be entirely vaporized, then no fuel was diluted in the lubricating oil and therefore the secondary injection is greatly retarded to increase the amount of unburned fuel added to the catalyst, while also permitting the fuel to be diluted into the lubricating oil within an allowable range. If the first period is shorter than the second period, then fuel was diluted in the lubricating oil and therefore the retardation of the secondary injection is set to meet a non-diluting requirement or, even if it is diluted, it is diluted only by a trace amount, thus preventing the lubricating oil from being excessively diluted by the unburned fuel.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device having a process for adding a reducing agent to a nitrogen oxides absorbent and releasing nitrogen oxides so as to perform reduction, wherein a reducing agent is liquidized and retained in an exhaust-collector pipe when the temperature of the exhaust- collector pipe is lower than a predetermined temperature at the time of adding the reducing agent near the exhaust-collector pipe, and the liquidized reducing agent is whitened and released to the atmosphere when an internal combustion engine is next in a high load condition. SOLUTION: The temperature of catalyst inflow gas and the temperature inside an exhaust-collector pipe satisfy such a relationship that the temperature of the catalyst inflow gas is not less than the temperature inside the exhaust- collector pipe. When the temperature of the catalyst inflow gas is measured and is lower than a predetermined temperature, the temperature inside the exhaust-collector pipe is recognized as lower than a predetermined temperature. Then, addition of the reducing agent is restricted in the exhaust-collector pipe, so as to liquidize the reducing agent inside the exhaust-collector pipe.
