Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust purifying device for a compression firing type internal combustion engine capable of restricting generation of smoke even in a rich or stoichiometric air-fuel ratio condition of exhaust for regenerating occlusion reduction type lean NOx catalyst by air-fuel ratio control to exhaust. SOLUTION: This device comprises an injector 11 for injecting light oil into a cylinder, occlusion reduction type lean NOx catalyst 22 provided in an exhaust passage for purifying exhaust generated by combustion of light oil injected by the injector 11 for occluding NOx in exhaust when it is in a lean air-fuel ratio condition, and emitting occluded NOx in a rich or stoichiametrie condition of exhaust to be regenerated, and an auxiliary injecting device 21 which cracks light oil when regeneration of the catalyst 22 is demanded for generating low carbon number component fuel like gasoline, and preliminarily mixing and injecting this low carbon number component fuel into a cylinder 2a.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the discharge of NOx from a whole NOx absorbent in a short period of time by arranging a plurality of reduction agent supply ports in the direction of flow of exhaust gas in the NOx absorbent in such a way that they are dispersed. CONSTITUTION:NOx absorbent 19a, 19b which absorbs NOx when air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas which flows in is lean,and discharges absorbed NOx when the concentration of oxygen in exhaust gas which flows in is reduced is arranged in exhaust air passages 16a, 16b of an engine. A plurality of reduction agent supply ports which are arranged and dispersed in the direction of flow of exhaust gas in the NOx absorbent 19a, 19b are provided. Exhaust air control valves 18a, 18b are opened when NOx is discharged from the NOx absorbent 19a, 19b to reduce the area of the exhaust air passages 16a, 16b. At the same time, reduction agent is supplied into the NOx absorbent 19a, 19b from each reduction agent supply port. As a consequence, reduction agent which is supplied from each reduction agent supply port spreads in the whole NOx absorbent 19a, 19b in a short period of time.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for regeneration by reducing consumption of a reducing agent when NOx absorbent is regenerated. CONSTITUTION:When NOx absorbent is regenerated by supplying a reducing agent to a container from a reducing agent supply quantity supply device 4 after inflow of exhaust gas to the container 3 to house the NOx absorbent 1 is cut off, an air current is generated to carry the reducing agent through the NOx absorbent. Since a high concentration reducing agent layer passes through the NOx absorbent while being carried on the carrying air current, respective parts of the NOx absorbent are generated successivly as the reducing agent layer passes, so that regeneration is carried out efficiently in a short time by a small quantity of reducing agent.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent degradation during the reproduction deterioration of drivability accompanying the condition of an excess particulate collection in a filter which collects particulates in a diesel engine. CONSTITUTION:In an exhaust emission control device provided with a filter 1, an electric heater 4 is energized to reproduce the filter 1 when the differential pressure DELTAP' as a particulate collection quantity parameter, which is detected by a differential pressure sensor 8, is found to be more than the first predetermined value (a), but the detection of the differential pressure is continued even during that process and when the differential pressure exceeds the second predetermined value (b), a by-pass control valve 10 is opened so that exhaust gas bypasses the filter 1 via a by-pass pipe 9. Consequently, the excessive quantity of collection and the increase of a back pressure are prevented.

When the two filters 5, 6 are installed within inner casings 3, 4 in a muffler 1 for regeneration of one of the filters 5/6, the exhaust gas passing through the filter 6/5 on the particulates collection side is left flowing to the peripheral space b/a of the filter 5/6.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To surely ignite particulates while preventing melting loss at the time of regeneration of a filter. CONSTITUTION:A heat transfer member 6 is inserted in a cell 4 at a clearance 7 in the wake of a stopper member 5 positioned on the particulate igniting side of a filter 1. It is thus possible to suppress transfer of heat from an end surface heater 2 to the heat transfer member 6 by the clearance 7 resulting in change of transmission of heat around the stopper member 5, so as to surely ignite particulates. After the particulates are ignited, combustion heat is transfered to a filter downstream side through the heat transfer member 6 so as to reduce the number of particulate members and melting loss of the filter 1.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To certainly prevent the dissolving loss of a filter by an exhaust gas flow control means to make exhaust gas to flow in the second direction opposite to an ordinary exhaust gas flow direction when an engine is judged to have turned into a state where particulate fuel can burn itself. CONSTITUTION:In an engine provided with an enlarged diameter part 14 having accommodated a filter 15 at the middle of an exhaust pipe 13, the first bypass pipe 21 is provided to connect a coupling part 22 between an engine 11 and the enlarged diameter part 14 with a coupling part 23 between the enlarged diameter part 14 and a muffler 16. In addition, the second bypass pipe 24 is provided to connect a coupling part 25 between the coupling part 22 and the enlarged diameter part 14 with a coupling part 26 between the coupling part 23 and the muffler 16. When collected particulate fuel is judged to be in a self-burning state, change-over valves 31, 32 provided on the bypass pipes 21, 24 respectively are controlled through a control circuit 51 so that exhaust gas may flow through the bypass pipe 21 from the side of a heater 41 into filter 15, and then discharge through both the second bypass pipe 24 and the muffler 16 into the atmosphere.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To lengthen a serving life of a filter and surely remove unpleasant odor components, by setting a 2nd filter of zeolite carrying Cu ion by ion- exchange in a lower part of a 1st filter for capturing particulates. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust gas from a diesel engine 11 is led to a 1st branched pipe 21, turned to a widened diameter pipe 14, catalyst poisons e.g., tar, particulates, S, P, etc., in the exhaust gas are captured by a 1st filter carrying gamma-alumina, and at the same time unpleasant odor components with high b.p. are adsorbed, and aldehydes, etc., are adsorbed by a 2nd filter 16 of zeolite carrying Cu ion by ion-exchange. When the exhaust gas becomes high temp., desorbed unpleasant odor compositions are oxidized in the 2nd filter. Meanwhile, when particulate capturing amt. in the 1st filter reaches to a specified value, the particulates are fired by an electric heater 41 and the 1st filter 15 is reproduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To check an initial current as well as to protect circuit parts, by connecting two heaters in series at the initial stage of current-energization to plural pieces of ceramic heaters and, after they are energized with current, energizing one side of these heater alone with the continuous rating current. CONSTITUTION:Both poles of ceramics heaters H1-Hn to be used as a heating device for an exhaust gas emission control device are connected to switching circuits 11 and 12. Among them the switching circuit 11 is constituted by selector switches S21-S2n corresponding to these heaters H1-Hn. And, the switching circuit 12 consists of selector switches S31-S3n. And, both these switching circuits 11 and 12 are controlled by a timer circuit or the like. At the time of current-energization, first switches S2n, S3n and S21, S31 are selected and these heaters H1 and Hn are connected in series and energized with current and, after the elapse of the specified time, these selector switches are selected so as to energize the heater H1 alone. With this constitution, an initial current is held down, thus circuit parts are protectable in this way.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To miniaturize a heater case by making the inside diameter on the lower course side of an exhaust gas flow of an insulating ring larger than that on the upper course side, and providing said ring on the opposite side of the filter of a heater. CONSTITUTION:Plural conductive ceramic element heaters 21 which are supported by a heater case 20 are placed on the upper course side of the filter 2 of an exhaust fine particle collecting and cleaning device. And, further, an insulating ring 23 is provided on the heater case 20, being positioned on the further upper course side of the exhaust gas flow than the heater 21. The inside diameter of the ring 23 on the lower course side of the exhaust gas flow is formed larger than that on the upper course side. A lead wire 28 for electrifying the heater 21 is connected to the end face on the upper course side of the insulating ring 23. Thereby, the width of the end face on the upper course side of the insulating ring 23 is made larger, enabling plural lead wires 38 to be wired in parallel, to prevent the heater case 20 from becoming larger in size.
