Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an engine stall without increasing an engine rotational speed to any higher level than required. SOLUTION: An engine stall is estimated in accordance with stall estimation criteria determined in advance (R1-3), and if the estimated number of times (counter snestp) reaches a determining value CNESTP1, a target rotational speed of an engine netag is raised by only a compensation quantity neup so that the engine stall is not easily caused when the engine is started afterward (R1-7). On the other hand, if a prescribed restoring condition is satisfied (decision of R1-8 is YES), the compensated target rotational speed of the engine netag is returned back to the original by the compensation quantities neup (R1-9).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the engine output sufficiently while preventing the sudden change of the engine output. SOLUTION: A waste gate valve 26 is provided in a bypass passage 24 to bypass the turbine 20 of an exhaust gas turbocharger 10, so as to control the supercharging pressure of an engine 1. When the opening of a throttle valve 11 provided in an intake duct 6 is less than a set opening, the air-fuel ratio of the mixture is made lean, and when it is not less than the set opening, the air-fuel ratio is made rich. When the air-fuel ratio is converted from the lean to the rich, the opening of the waste gate valve 26 is increased to reduce the supercharging pressure once so as to block the sudden increase of the engine output, and at the same time, the opening of the waste gate valve 26 is reduced with the passage of time thereafter, to increase the supercharging pressure gradually, so as to accomplish the increase of the engine output.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform reliable detection of the occurrence of a miss-fire without being influenced by vibration of an engine body. CONSTITUTION:A miss-fire detecting device for a multicylinder internal combustion engine is provided with a rotor 11 rotated in synchronism with an engine crank shaft 10 and a sensor 12 fixed on the engine body side and detecting the angular velocity of the crank shaft 10 in coordination with the rotor 11 fixed on the engine body side. Based on an output signal from the sensor 12, the rate of change of the angular velocity of the crank shaft 10 is calculated and when the rate of change of the angular velocity of the crank shaft 10 is changed into a value higher than a predetermined set amount, it is decided that a miss-fire occurs. An operation region wherein violent vibration of an engine body is produced around the crank shaft 10 is previously stored, and when the running state of an engine is in the operation region, decision of the occurrence of a miss-fire is prohibited or a set amount is increased.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To decide whether or not abnormalities occur in a control system for controlling an EGR control valve, on the basis of an engine temperature. CONSTITUTION:An EGR control valve 14 is disposed in an EGR passage 12 connecting an exhaust manifold 6 and a surge tank 7. When the temperature of an engine cooling water sensed by a water-temperature sensor 36 is elevated up to a set temperature or a temperature higher than the set temperature, a cutoff valve 34 is opened, so that supply of an EGR gas is started. A temperature sensor 37 for sensing the interior temperature of the EGR passage 12 is disposed in this passage 12. Whether or not the EGR control valve 14 is in abnormality, or whether or not a control system including the cutoff valve 34 and the water-temperature sensor 36 is in failure is judged depending upon whether the interior temperature of the EGR passage 12 is lower or higher than a temperature set beforehand during a time period in which the temperature of an engine cooling water is slightly lower than the set temperature.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To surely judge whether an EGR controller is out of order or not. CONSTITUTION:An EGR control valve 14 is arranged in an EGR passage 12 which connects an exhaust manifold 6 to a surge tank 7. When an engine cooling water temperature becomes higher than a set temperature, a shut-off valve 35 is opened so as to start supply of EGR gas. A temperature sensor 37 for detecting the temperature in the EGR passage 12 is arranged in the EGR passage 12. When the engine cooling water temperature is slightly lower than the set temperature, it is judged whether any trouble is generated in the EGR controller 13 not based on the temperature inside the EGR passage 12. When a difference between the temperature inside the EGR passage 12 and the engine cooling water temperature is less than a set value, judgement of the trouble is not performed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent accidental fire, imperfect combustion, etc., from being produced by forming a device in such a way that a control means controls an actuator more in the direction of increasing the amount of suction air when fuel is a heavy fuel difficult to evaporate than when it is volatile light fuel. CONSTITUTION:A fuel 18 is injected by a fuel injection nozzle 19, mixed with air passing through an actuator 14, and led into an internal combustion engine 11. Idling speed control(ISC) is made by controlling the valve opening of the actuator 14 (ISCV). The properties of the fuel 18 are detected by a fuel property detector means 15, the detected signals are transmitted to a control means 16, and the control means 16 controls the actuator 14 according to the detected fuel properties. Where the fuel 18 is detected to be heavy fuel containing high boiling components, the control means 16 controls the actuator 14 more in the direction of increasing the amount of intake air than where a light fuel is used, to increase the amount of intake air. Thus, charging efficiency will be increased even if the heavy fuel is used and variation in air fuel ratio is increased.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To accurately maintain a target air-fuel ratio by applying the constitution wherein a lean time is longer than a rich time for a mixture during acceleration operation and a fuel injection amount is increased when a deviation between the aforesaid times exceeds the predetermined value, while the value being made higher with an increase in the extent of acceleration. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection control means B so controls a fuel injection valve 12 as to give the target air-fuel ratio of a mixture, according to a signal from an O2 sensor 19 in an exhaust passage A. In addition, when an acceleration condition is detected with a detecting means C, a deviation between lean and rich times for a mixture is obtained with a deviation calculation means D, according to an output signal from the O2 sensor 19. When the lean time is longer than the rich time and the devi ation exceeds the predetermined value, a fuel injection amount is increased with an increment means E. In this case, the aforesaid predetermined value is all the more increased when the extent of acceleration increases. According to the aforesaid construction, a lean condition due to a carbon deposit can be accurately judged during acceleration operation, and an air-fuel ratio can be accurately maintained at a target value.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the leaning of a mixture and ensure the satisfactory starting and stable operation of an engine by increasingly controlling the increase ratio of idling speed at the time of starting the engine according to an increase in adhered quantity of deposit. CONSTITUTION:Based on the output signal of an oxygen concentration detector 19 disposed in an engine exhaust passage, the injection quantity is controlled by a means A in such a manner that a mixture fed into the engine cylinder has a target air-fuel ratio. Based on the output signal of the oxygen concentration detector 19, the adhered amount of deposit is detected by a means B. The adhered amount of deposit is stored by a means C. The idling speed at the time of engine start is increased by a means D. The increasing ratio of the idling speed at the time of engine start is controlled by a means E in such a manner as to be increased as the adhered amount of deposit is increased. Hence, the leaning of the mixture is prevented, and the satisfactory starting and stable operation are ensured.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To maintain an air-fuel ratio at a target value by a method wherein with the increase in the degree of acceleration, a lean/rich decision period of fuel-air mixture is decreased, and when the number of lean times is increased to a value a higher than the number of rich times by a value exceeding a set number, the increase of an injection fuel amount is effected for correction. CONSTITUTION:With the increase in the degree of acceleration decided by a degree of acceleration deciding means 50, a lean/rich decision period of fuel-air mixture is decreased by a decision period control means 51. During the decision period, lean/rich is decided at intervals of a crank angle predetermined by a lean/rich deciding means 52. A deviation between the number of times which it is decided that fuel-air mixture is lean and the number of times which it is decided that the mixture is rich is calculated by a calculating means 53. When the number of lean times is increased to a value higher than the number of rich times and a deviation therebetween exceeds a predetermined set number, an injection fuel amount control means 54 increases an injection fuel amount for correction, and drive of a fuel injection valve 12 is controlled. This constitution enables maintenance of an air-fuel ratio at a target value regardless of the degree of acceleration.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To accurately detect the rich/lean condition of mixture by computing the period at which mixture is switched over between a lean condition and a rich one, and thereby computing the deviation in time between the lean condition and the rich one only for the time in response to said period at the time of accelerating operation. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection quantity control means 50 controls the quantity of fuel injection from a fuel injection valve 12 based on output signals from an O2 sensor 19 in such a way that mixture to be supplied to an engine shall be of a target air-fuel ratio. In this case, the period at which mixture is switched over between a lean condition and a rich one, is computed by a period computing means 51 based on outputs from the O2 sensor 19, after accelerating operation detected by an accelerating condition detecting means 52 has been started, only for the time in response to the period, the deviation in time between the rich and lean conditions of mixture is obtained by a deviation computing means 53. Based on the deviation, the quantity of fuel injection is increased by an increasing means 54 when the lean condition is longer in time than the rich one and when the deviation exceeds a set value. Thus, the lean or rich condition is accurately detected at the time of accelerating operation, an air-fuel ratio can thereby be properly controlled.
