Abstract:
In an image-reading device, when the reading unit generates the set of image data, the top side is generated at first and the bottom side is generated subsequently to the top side. The scanned image includes a document image corresponding to the document. The specifying unit, when the reading unit scans and reads a part of the document and generates a part of the set of image data including a part of the document image, specifies a target vertex that is positioned at topmost among at least one vertex of the part of document image. The estimating unit defines a reference position in the scanned image corresponding to a center of the conveying path in the width direction, and estimates a size of the document based on a length in the second direction between the target vertex and the reference position.

Abstract:
An aspect of the invention provides an image scanner (100, 123) which can continuously transfer image data of one surface to an external device (image forming apparatus) without performing control such as interruption and resumption of an original scanning operation. The image scanner (100, 123) includes a size detection unit (501, 502) which detects an original size and a determination unit (501, 502) which determines whether or not the image data relating to an original of the size detected by the size detection unit (501, 502) can be stored in a storage unit (305). The image scanner (100, 123) also includes a control unit (320). The control unit (320) is configured to set operation in a first mode when the determination unit (501, 502) determines that image data relating to the original can be stored in the storage unit (305), and the control unit (320) is configured to set operation in a second mode when the determination unit (501, 502) determines that image data relating to the original cannot be stored in the storage unit (305).
Abstract:
This invention provides an apparatus and a method capable of improving the throughput, reducing the apparatus cost, and executing marginless copy with a natural impression. According to this invention, a multi-function printer executes marginless copy in the following. Marginless copy and a printing paper size are instructed. The position and size of an original placed on the original table of the scanner are detected. A reading area on the original table is decided on the basis of the instruction, detection result, and a predefined extra-printing size. Control is done to execute image reading while limiting the operation range of the sensor of the scanner so that the image original is read from the decided reading area.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner capable of quickly specifying the size of a document to be scanned. SOLUTION: In a scan image, a reference line and A, B detection lines are provided, where the reference line corresponds to the center line in a width direction of a conveying passage of a document, and the A, B detection lines are positioned at both the sides of the reference line. Then, when scan image data for a front edge part of the document are generated, edges of the document are detected on the A, B detection lines, and the respective edges on the A, B detection lines are set to be points a, b, respectively. Further, the edge detected on a line passing through a point positioned at a lower side in the points a, b and extending in an X-axis direction is set to be a point (point c) on a side edge of the document, and the coordinates of the intersection (point d) between a straight line C passing through the point c and orthogonally crossing a straight line ab, and the straight line ab are specified as coordinates of the vertex of the document. Then, the size of the document is estimated based on distance in the X-axis direction between the point d and the reference line. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which can detect an original document size, without fail, irrespective of the influence due to disturbance light or influence due to te density of an edge of the original document. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus 1 presses the original document, placed on a glass plate 3d by a platen cover 20 and reads the original document by using a line sensor 37 and is provided with: a light source 33 which is used when reading image information; a first detection sensor 25, which detects as a first timing a state in which the cover 20 is opened at, for example, an angle of 20°; a second detection sensor 26, which detects as a second timing a state, for example, that is immediately before the cover 20 closes the glass plate 3d; and an original document size determination unit 55, which lights the light source 33 in the respective first and second timing when the cover 20 is closing, reads the image information by the sensor 37, operates difference data of the first image information read in the first timing and the image information read in the second timing, and determines the size of the original document, based on the difference data. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify a position at which the quality of the read image of an original declines. SOLUTION: When determining that an original is not present, a CPU moves a full rate carriage and a half rate carriage by driving a motor not shown in the figure and executes scanning (step 103). Thus, dust detection data outputted from a comparator circuit are held by a result holding circuit. Then, the CPU determines the presence/absence of line noise on the basis of the dust detection data held in the result holding circuit (step 104). Then, when determining that the line noise is present, the CPU acquires the generation start position and length (number of pixels) of the line noise and stores the generation start position and the length in the result holding circuit (step 105). PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of increasing the detection accuracy of the size of an original and being reduced in size and in cost, by eliminating the need for an image sensor that is dedicated to the detection of the size of the original. SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus includes a first light source 110, disposed on one side of a transport path of an original for irradiating light on one surface of the original; a reading unit 1a for reading the image of the original, by receiving light irradiated from the first light source 110 and reflected on the one side of the original; a second light source 210, disposed on the other side of the transport path for irradiating light to be received by the reading unit 1a; and a control unit for detecting the original, on the basis of a resultant output of the reading unit 1a upon receipt of the light irradiated from the second light source 210. Abstract:
A method for identifying document edges collects a predetermined number scanlines of the document. Both first order and second order statistics are then calculated based on the scanned data. A first slope value being a function of the difference between a plurality of the first value and a second slope value being a function of the difference between a plurality of the second value are calculated. A document edge is detected using the first and second slope values.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image scanner and an image recording apparatus which read at once a plurality sheets of a draft laid on a draft table for processing. SOLUTION: When sensor output of a draft detection sensor or a draft size detection sensor is acquired (S11), a number of draft sheets laid on the draft table is counted (S12). When a plurality of drafts is discriminated to be laid on the draft table (S13: YES), a control unit performs setting of a reading order (S14), and performs reading processing of the draft according to the established reading order (S15). When finish of all draft reading is discriminated (S16: YES), the control unit performs setting of an output system (S17), and executes the output processing (S18). COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
