    摘要: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solvent which is suitable for use in bromination of a styrene polymer, is environmentally useful, has a boiling point in the range of 80 to 90°C, is relatively inactive in a bromination process and allows for generation of a styrene bromide polymer product having to a nearly white color.
    SOLUTION: A polymer bromide obtained by bringing the styrene polymer and a brominating agent into contact under the presence of bromochloromethane as a Lewis acid catalyst and a reaction solvent is useful for production of a thermoplastic material provided with flame retardancy. Aluminum chloride is particularly preferable as the Lewis acid catalyst.
