PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing control device reducing number of components and reducing cost by connecting a plurality of coil springs as one body by metal wire material. SOLUTION: A vane member which can rotate relatively to a timing sprocket is rotated in a regular and a reverse direction by selectively supplying and discharging oil pressure to and from an advancing side and a retarding side oil pressure chamber to convert relative rotation phase of the sprocket and a cam shaft. Then, each pair of coil springs 34, 35 arranged between each shoe and each vane included in a housing and energizing the vane member to the advancing side is formed out of metal wire material, and each one end parts 34a, 35a are connected as one body via a connecting part 36. Consequently, roughly C-shape seat surface 37 elastically abuts on one side surface 10b of the shoe is formed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an unprepared restriction release of a timing sprocket and a vane member by pneumatic pressure in an ignition timing delay side hydraulic chamber when starting an engine. SOLUTION: A relative rotational phase of the sprocket and a camshaft 2 is converted by reciprocally rotating the vane member 3 relatively rotatable with the timing sprocket 1 by selectively supplying and exhausting hydraulic pressure to ignition timing advance side/ignition timing delay side hydraulic chambers 17 and 18. A restricting mechanism for restricting the vane member to a housing 5 or releasing restriction, is composed of two restricting parts 27 and 28, and is formed so as to become a release preparing state while maintaining an engaging state with a first lock member 30 by backwardly moving a second lock member 33 by working hydraulic pressure supplied to a pressure receiving chamber 33b from the ignition timing delay side hydraulic chamber when starting the engine.
