    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the initial adhesive strength and resistance to foaming by compounding a specific copolymer with an alkali and CaCO3. CONSTITUTION:At least one monomer selected from the group consisting of an isobutylene unit, styrene monomer and acrylic acid monomer is copolymerized with a maleic acid monomer at 30-200 deg.C for 0.5-20hr to give a copolymer having a viscosity-average MW of 500-400000. The resulting copolymer is heated to 30 deg.C or higher and mixed with an alkali (e.g. NaOH) to give an alkali- neutralized product having a neutralization degree of 0.05-0.5. Said product is then heated to 30 deg.C or higher, mixed with CaCO3 having a mean particle diameter of 0.01-50mum in an amt. of 5-1000 pts.wt. (based on 100 pts.wt. said copolymer in said neutralized product), and stirred for 0.5-10hr.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer having improved water absorbing properties and gel strength and useful for paper diaper and a raw material for sanitary good by suspending an aqueous solution of acrylic acid metallic salt containing a water soluble radical generating agent, etc., and having a specific concentration into an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent and polymerizing the acrylic acid metallic salt. CONSTITUTION:30-40wt.% aqueous solution of acrylic acid metallic salt containing a water-soluble radical generating agent (e.g. potassium persulfate) or redox type polymerization initiator (e.g. combination of potassium persulfate and sodium sulfite) is suspended into an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent (e.g. pentane) and the acrylic acid metallic salt is polymerized in the presence of a crosslinking agent [e.g. N,N'-methylenebis(meth)acrylamide] to provide the aimed polymer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the tile metal salt having well-balanced water absorption and gel strength by adding a crosslinking agent of an epoxy compound and a hydroxy compound to the product formed by reversed phase suspension polymerization of an alkali metal salt of acrylic acid and crosslinking the polymerization product. CONSTITUTION:The reversed phase polymerization of an alkali salt of acrylic acid is conducted in the presence of a solvent such as pentane, a polymerization initiator such as potassium persulfate and a surface active agent, preferably sorbitan monostearate, preferably at 20 to 80 deg.C for 2 to 10 hours. The resultant polymer is combined with a crosslinking agent composed of an epoxy compound such as ethylene glycol glycidyl ether and a hydroxy compound such as ethylene glycol to effect crosslinking preferably at 50 to 150 deg.C for 30 minutes 10 hours to give the subject metal salt which is used as a material for paper diaper or sanitary napkin.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber treating agent obtained by blending a water soluble acrylic polymer with neutralized product of a specific copolymer and capable of providing excellent strength and elongation to a fiber by giving the agent to the fiber at ambient temperature and simultaneously reduced in releasing amount after treatment. CONSTITUTION:A water soluble acrylic polymer, e.g., poly(meth)acrylic acid is blended with one kind of monomer selected from alpha-olefin, cyclic olefin, diolefin, acrylic monomer, vinyl ether and vinyl sulfide and neulralized material obtained by neutralizing a copolymer (e.g., diisobutylene-maleic acid based copolymer) containing a maleic acid based monomer as a constitutional unit with an alkali agent to provide the aimed treating agent capable of providing excellent strength, etc., to a fiber by subjecting a natural fiber, synthetic fiber, etc., to immersing treatment without heating and simultaneously reduced in releasing amount after treatment. Furthermore, when PVA is further added thereto, the treating agent is further strengthened.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an adhesive composition having excellent adhesivity and water-resistance and suitable for the bonding of wood, paper, etc., by compounding an incompletely neutralized copolymer composed of isobutylene unit, etc., and maleic acid-type monomer unit with a latex and a crosslinking agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective adhesive composition can be produced by compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. of an incompletely neutralized material (preferably having a neutralization degree of 0.05-0.5) produced by the incomplete neutralization of a copolymer composed of maleic acid monomer unit and one or more units selected from isobutylene unit, styrene-type monomer unit and acrylic acid-type monomer unit (preferably having a viscosity-average molecular weight of 1,000-200,000 and containing 10-60mol% of the maleic acid-type monomer unit) with an alkali, (B) preferably 10-500 pts.wt. of a latex (e.g., styrene- butadiene copolymer) and (C) preferably 0.1-200 pts.wt. of a crosslinking agent (preferably a polyamide compound, etc.).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymer composition suitable as an adhesive having improved initial bond strength, consisting of an alkali neutralized material of a terpolymer comprising a maleic acid compound, a styrenic compound and an acrylic acid compound and latex. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100Pts.wt. neutralized material which is obtained by feeding 5-50mol.%, preferably 10-50mol.% maleic acid compound, 10-40mol.% styrenic compound and 10-40mol.% acrylic acid compound (e.g. methyl acrylate) to a reactor, cooling, sufficiently degassing, reacting these components at 30-20 deg.C for 0.5-20hr to give a terpolymer having 500-400,000, preferably 1,000-200,000 viscosity-average molecular weight and neutralizing the terpolymer with an alkali at 20-150 deg.C for 0.5-10hr is blended with (B) 5-1,000pts.wt., preferably 10-500pts.wt. calculated as solid content of latex.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a granular copolymer in good efficiency, by injecting a solution of a copolymer containing at least one member selected from among maleic acid, maleic anhydride and a maleate as an essential structural unit into a nonsolvent or a poor solvent for this copolymer. CONSTITUTION:A solution of a copolymer containing maleic acid, maleic anhydride and/or a maleate as a structural unit is injected into a nonsolvent or a poor solvent for this copolymer. It is preferable that said copolymer contains at least one member selected from among isobutylene, styrene, acrylic acid, acrylates, methacrylic acid and methacrylates as structural units other than those of the maleic compounds. As said nonsolvents or poor solvents, water, 1-4C monoalcohols, 2-4C polyalcohols and 5-8C aliphatic hydrocarbons are preferable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled dispersant providing a magnetic recording material having improved traveling stability, ratio of S/N, etc., eliminating aggregation of magnetic component, improving dispersibility, comprising a salt of a copolymer of a specific monomer such as isobutylene, etc., and maleic acid (anhydride). CONSTITUTION:(A) At least one monomer selected from isobutylene, styrene and acrylic acid ester is reacted with (B) maleic acid (anhydride) and, if necessary, in the presence of a solvent such as ethylbenzene, etc., and a catalyst such as benzoyl peroxide, etc., at 45-200 deg.C for 1-10hr to give a copolymer (salt) having preferably 1,000-200,000 number-average molecular weight. The aimed dispersant comprising the copolymer (salt).
