The transesterification catalyst contains phosphorus compounds shown by the following general formulae (1) and/or (2) and at least one basic compound selected from the group consisting of compounds of group 1 elements (except hydrogen) of the long period type periodic table, compounds of group 2 elements thereof, basic boron compounds, basic phosphorus compounds and nitrogen-containing basic compounds.
