SOLUTION: This damping material 3 for the building which is interposed between the substrate structure material 1 and the building surface material 2 comprises: a thin strip-shaped back plate 31; a strip-shaped center joint 32 which is formed in a protruding shape on the surface of the back plate 31; and strip-shaped side joints 33 and 33 which are juxtaposed and formed in protruding shapes at an interval on both sides of the center joint 32. The damping material is formed in such a shape that the height of the center joint 32 is almost equal to that of each of the side joints 33 and 33. The center joint 32 and the side joints 33 and 33 are formed of vibration-proof materials. Preferably, the back plate 31 is formed of a flexible thin-plate material composed of a synthetic resin sheet so as to impart flexibility to the vibration-proof material.
