Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of sulfates by depositing a catalyst metal more in the upstream side than in the downstream side and depositing an oxygen storage metal only on the upstream side in a catalyst produced by depositing the catalyst metal on a catalyst carrier layer formed on the surface of fine pores of a porous catalyst carrier. SOLUTION: A honeycomb filter, which is a monolith type carrier, is used as a porous catalyst carrier 2 in an exhaust gas purifying catalyst 1 of a diesel engine and a catalyst carrier layer is formed on the surface of the fine pores of the porous catalyst carrier 2 and a catalyst metal is deposited on the catalyst carrier layer. As the catalyst carrier layer, alumina, titania, etc., are used and as the catalyst metal, platinum, rhodium, palladium, etc., are used. In this case, the catalyst metal is deposited more in the downstream side than in the upstream side in the exhaust gas flow direction of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst 1 and moreover, an oxygen storage metal is deposited only in the upstream side. Consequently, oxidation of SO2 is suppressed and sulfates formation is prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve ability for purifing unburnt alcohol by providing a bypass passage on an exhaust gas passage located between a catalytic converter and a muffler placed downstream from said converter, and fitting an unburnt alcohol trap into said passage. CONSTITUTION:A bypass passage 15 is provided between an exhaust gas passage 14, where a catalytic converter 13 is mounted for purifing exhaust gas taken out of an engine, and the downstream side of the catalytic converter 13. And, a selector valve 16 is fitted into the branch point of said bypass passage 15 from the exhaust gas passage 14 for making switching control of the bypass passage 15 to the open side when cooling water temperature is below the specified value because of engine starting. An unburnt alcohol trap 17 is mounted on the way of the bypass passage 15 with its downstream side connected to the exhaust gas passage 14 through a check valve 26. Unburnt alcohol adsorbed by the filter 25 of the trap 17 is, when the selector valve 16 switches the bypass passage 15 to the close side, separated in order to be led to an ntake passage 21 through a pasage 30.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve starting properties, by a method wherein a fuel injection time during the starting is regulated depending upon alcohol concentration in mixture fuel and an operating condition during the starting. CONSTITUTION:In an engine 1 using alcohol mixture fuel, a main fuel injection valve 18 is situated to each cylinder, and a fuel injection valve 22 for starting is located to a surge tank 20. Signals from an alcohol concentration sensor 3 and a water temperature sensor 4, which are mounted to a fuel tank 8, are inputted to a control device 6, and the fuel injection valve 22 for starting is opened in a time width determined depending upon a cooling water temperature and alcohol concentration during the starting. This constitution enables excellent starting of an engine even if alcohol concentration is different.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prolong the working time of an engine by lessening the fuel pressure range limited by a high pressure regulator in a fuel feed system of a compressed natural gas engine. CONSTITUTION:A pressure gauge 3, high pressure regulator 4 and low pressure regulator 5 are provided sequentially from the gas cylinder side in a fuel feed path 2 connecting the gas cylinder 1 to an engine. Bypass paths 6 are provided before and after the high pressure regulator. When fuel pressure detected by the pressure gauge is reduced less than a prescribed value, the bypass path 6 is opened by a switch valve 7 to bypass the high pressure regulator, i.e., fuel can be fed to the engine even if the fuel pressure is less than the set pressure of the high pressure regulator, so that the working time of the engine is prolonged.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the efficient recovery of unburnt HC by providing a bypass exhaust gas cooling means and a condensed ingredient reservoir for condensing an unburnt HC ingredient in order an exhaust bypass which is branched off of an exhaust passage, and introducing said unburnt HC ingredient into an intake passage after warming up an engine. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust bypass 5 is branched off of an exhaust passage 2 on the lower course side of a catalyst converter 3, and a selector valve 14 which is switched so as to open a bypass 5 side when the catalyst converter 3 is judged in an inactive condition under a low intake temp., is provided in its branched part 5a. And, a cooling pipe 30 which consists of plural cooling passages 30a-30c and which is cooled by an air flow is provided midway in the exhaust bypass 5 to cool exhaust gas in order condense an unburnt HC ingredient in the exhaust gas. And the condensed ingredient is collected in a condensed ingredient reservoir 30b and, after warming up an engine, a liquid type unburnt HC in the reservoir 30b is mixed with air introduced from a vent hole 7 through a check valve 8 and, then, fed into an intake passage 19 on the upper course side of a throttle valve 23 through a passage 33.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent unburnt alcohol fuel in low temperature from flowing into a catalyzer converter to restrain the discharge of noxious substances by providing an unburnt alcohol trap upstream of the catalyzer converter in an exhaust path. CONSTITUTION:An unburnt alcohol trap 14 is provided upstream of a catalyzer converter 17 provided in exhaust pipes 13a-13c for an engine 11 using alcohol fuel. The trap 14 is provided with a filter 15 which adsorbs unburnt alcohol included in exhaust gas at low temperature and removes the adsorbed unburnt alcohol as the temperatue rises. Thus, the unburnt alcohol is prevented from flowing into the catalyzer converter under low temperature in which the activity of catalyzer is reduced so that exhaust of unburnt alcohol can be reduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the low temperature starting performance of an apparatus for injecting fuel mixed with alcohol, by providing a main fuel pressure regulator and a starting fuel pressure regulator for pressure feeding the fuel having relatively high pressure to a starting injection valve. CONSTITUTION:A fuel feeding apparatus 2 for feeding fuel mixed with alcohol to an engine 1 is driven by a fuel pump 15 so as to distribute the mixture fuel in a fuel tank 8 through a fuel filter 12, a pulsation damper 14 and a delivery pipe 16 to a main injection valve 18 provided for every cylinder. In said apparatus 2, a fuel starting tube 19 branched from a fuel tube 10 is provided so as to feed the fuel through a check valve 20 and a fuel storage tank 21 to a starting injection valve 22 mounted on a surge tank 23. Furthermore, a main fuel pressure regulator 25 is provided at one end of the delivery pipe 16 and a starting fuel pressure regulator 27 having a higher setting pressure than that of the main fuel pressure regulator 25 is provided in the fuel storage tank 21.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To suppress evaporation gas from being generated without impairing the atomizing characteristics of fuel. CONSTITUTION:Fuel in a fuel tank 101 is fed to a delivery pipe 104 through an in-tank pump 102. Excess fuel is fed to a flow passage switchover valve 107 through a pressure regulator 105. A first flow outlet of a flow passage switchover valve is connected to an auxiliary tank 109, and fuel in the auxiliary tank is recovered in the fuel tank through a stop valve 111. Also a flow passage 113 to bypass the auxiliary tank and stop valve is connected to a second outlet of the flow passage switchover valve. When the return fuel temperature is beyond a first threshold value, the flow passage switchover valve is excited to lead return fuel to the auxiliary tank and, when it is lowered to a second threshold value, the stop valve 11 is opened to recover fuel in the fuel tank. When the return fuel temperature is below it, fuel is recovered directly in the fuel tank through the flow passage 113.
