PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new connecting rod which uses the same machining equipment as an existing one, is reduced in manufacturing cost and improved in productivity.SOLUTION: A rod body 14 and a cap 15 are pre-machined respectively, while protrusions 20R and 20C on both sides in a width direction of big ends 12R and 12C (S1) are held with a predetermined jig 21. Next, while both 14 and 15 are temporarily fixed with a bolt 17, the protrusion 20R of the big end 12R on the rod body side, and the protrusion 20C in the upper part 27 of the cap 15, are cut (S2). Both 14 and 15 are once disassembled (S3), and are again temporarily fixed, and then a big end hole 12A is finish-machined (S4). In an assembling step S5, the rod body 14 is inserted in a cylinder bore of a cylinder block from the big end side, and the rod body 14 and the cap 15 are fastened by a bolt 17, with a crank pin held therebetween.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connecting rod capable of preventing reduction of service life of roller bearings as a result of a problem wherein the roller bearings used between the connecting rod and respective journals on a crank shaft easily receive variation of a stress distribution, and receive the instantaneous largest stress sometimes, in an internal combustion engine; and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: This method of manufacturing this connecting rod 10 includes: forming a substantially cylindrical rough bore at one end of the connecting rod 10; applying one of a compressive load and a tensile load to the connecting rod to at least partially deform the rough bore into a non-cylindrical shape; and machining the deformed rough bore into a substantially cylindrical shape (machined bore 30c, 30d) while the one of the compressive load and the tensile load is applied to the connecting rod. PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a connecting-rod by forming the spherical part, rod part, and the pad part from the material in integral structure and forming the bearing alloy for the sliding surface of the pad part through centrifugal casting and constituting the connecting-rod having overlay on the surface. CONSTITUTION:Six pices of material 4 are assembled in ring form so as to be jointed onto the periphery of a core bar 6, on the installing apparatus having the core bar 6 at the center part, then a pressing plate 7 is installed, and the upper parts (flat surface parts) 8-8 of the spherical part 1 of the material 4 are pressed in the direction of arrows and fastened tightly. Then, the installed plate is layed on a welding board, and the jointing parts of the materials 4 are welded and joined, thus welding is completed. The figure 11 indicates the built-up welding part. After the pressing plate 7 and the core bar 6 are dismounted, the connecting rod is installed onto the machine such as lathe, and the inner diameter of a ring-shaped material 12 is machined into a prescribed dimension R1.
