PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, e.g., a device for switching a transport direction of a recording material which is not easily changed even if temperature changes.SOLUTION: A switching device 60 includes: a gate member 61 which switches a transport direction of a sheet by being selectively moved to a first position or a second position in a mechanism part of an image forming apparatus which performs image formation on the sheet; and a solenoid 62 which moves the gate member 61 between the first position and the second position by increasing or reducing a force exerted on the gate member 61 at predetermined timing. The solenoid 62 changes, on the basis of a temperature of the solenoid 62, timing at which the force exerted on the gate member 61 is increased or reduced.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate the diameter of a roll with high accuracy by a simple constitution.SOLUTION: This printing device includes a first roller for rotatably holding such a roll body that a medium is rolled, a first motor for rotating the first roller, a second roller provided at the downstream side of the roll body in the carrying direction of the medium for carrying the medium in the carrying direction or in the opposite carrying direction opposite to the carrying direction depending on the rotating direction, a second motor for rotating the second roller, and a control part using the second motor for carrying the medium a predetermined carriage distance in the opposite carrying direction to generate the slack of the medium between the first roller and the second roller and then using the first motor for rotating the roll body in the rolling direction to reduce the slack, when calculating the diameter of the roll body on the basis of the rotating amount of the first roller at this time and the predetermined carriage distance.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the reliable conveyance of recording media by the collaboration of two independently driven rollers without making the device complex, large and high in price. SOLUTION: During conveying a piece of paper 1 by the collaboration of a paper feed roller 3 and a conveying roller 8, a paper feed motor and a conveying motor respectively driving the rollers activate a slowdown stop control so as to stop the rotation of the paper feed roller 3 and the conveying roller 8 at the same time. When the rotation of the conveying roller 8 positioned downstream side of the convey route for the recording media stops and the paper feed roller 3 positioned upstream side of the convey route is rotating, the paper feed motor driving the paper feed roller 3 is stopped compulsorily.
