PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for continuous culture of microalgae in which high speed proliferation is achieved in the coexistence of heterotrophs and autotrophs and to provide a method for continuous culture of microalgae using the apparatus.SOLUTION: The apparatus for continuous culture of microalgae is a closed type in which a light irradiation device, which has a light emitter or an optical waveguide with the light emitter as the light source, is installed inside or outside. The light irradiation device has a composition which irradiates light, which has quality and photon required for the photosynthesis of the microalgae in the culture solution and which has center wavelengths of 430-480 nm, 560-620 nm, and 675-685 nm, with photon quantity ratios of 0.5-5 and 4-10, respectively, on the basis of the short wavelength, toward the culture solution at least from either one of the sidewalls, the upper and lower surface of the culture solution. The apparatus has a heating unit inside or outside which applies heat sterilization to the culture solution containing water soluble carbohydrates as carbon sources of the microalgae and has a sterilized feeder or a filter sterilization unit for putting the culture contents into the culture solution. The method using the apparatus for continuous culture of microalgae is presented.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a culturing apparatus for algae enabling the efficient culturing and easy in the maintenance of a lighting system. SOLUTION: This culturing apparatus comprises a culturing tank 10 having a roughly cylindrical shape with a bottom made of a light-transmitting resin, for example, having an inside diameter of 700 mm, a diameter of 1300 mm and a volume of 200 liters, and a roughly circular lighting system, having the culturing tank 10 at the center, connecting nine sets of lighting units 2 with connection metal fittings 3 in a state where a unit is in close contact with the next one with the exception that units at both the ends have a space X between them.
