摘要: PURPOSE:To manufacture a chip material for a commutator having superior sliding characteristics at high temp. by plating the sliding surface of a Cu or Cu alloy material for a commutator which Cr, Ni, Sn or Zn and carrying out diffusion treatment to a proper thickness by heating. CONSTITUTION:The sliding surface of the Cu or Cu alloy material for the commutator is plate with at least one kind of metal selected among Cr, Ni, Sn and Zn or an alloy consisting of two or more among the metals. The plated part is subjected to diffusion treatment by heating to form a diffusion layer of 10- 200mum thickness contg. the metal or alloy for plating. The heat resistance of the sliding surface is improved in said simple stages while almost maintaining the electric conductivity, and the chip material for commutator having high slidability at high temp. is obtd.

In said treating agent, an iron alloy material containing 0.2% or more C is coexisted as a material to be treated and heated to 700-1,200 deg.C. Thereby, a carbide layer comprising one or more of a carbide of Cr, V, Bb, Ta, Ti can be formed on a surface of the iron alloy material.
