Abstract:
An item of footwear having a liquid-repelling polymeric coating, obtained by a plasma treatment process, provided over at least part of a surface thereof, said item also being provided at the region on the inside upon which the wearer's foot rests with a liquid-absorbing foot supporting footbed. Items of this type provide improved comfort for the wearer.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for an organic polymer material in which sulfonic group is introduced in the state of a pure form and which exhibits a sufficient chemical stability even when being used for a long period. SOLUTION: The production of the sulfonic group-having organic polymer material, is carried out by graft-polymerizing a polymerizable monomer having a benzene ring on which vinyl group and the sulfonic group in the form of an ammonium- or a lithium-salt or a sulfonate are bonded, with an organic polymer base material. Whereby the organic polymer material having the following characteristics, is obtained. The principal chain of the organic polymer base material comprises a polymer side-chain having benzene rings each comprising only the sulfonic group as a functional group thereon, and each of the sulfonic groups is bonded at a same substitution position on the respective benzene rings in the polymer side-chain. Abstract:
A method for treating an item which, in use, is subjected to flexing, to reduce its susceptibility to water penetration over time during use, said method comprising forming a water repellent coating or surface modification on the surface of the item by ionisation or activation technology.
Abstract:
A method for protecting an item from weight gain due to uptake of liquid comprising the step of exposing the item to plasma in a gaseous state for a sufficient period of time to allow a protective layer, particularly a polymeric layer, to be created on the surface of the item. Also encompassed is an item of footwear treated by the method.
