PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substantially non-photosensitive thermographic recording material which can indicate a high printability expressed by the ratio of Dmax to an organic silver salt covering rate with a thermographic print with the preservation of an image density level concerning, for example, D-1.0 during preservation in the dark and sensitometry improved. SOLUTION: In the non-photosensitive mono-sheet monochromatic thermographic recording material, a thermal element containing a non- photosensitive organic silver salt, a 3,4-dihydroxy benzene compound in the relation of a thermal action to the salt, and a binder and a support are contained, and the 3,4-dihydroxy benzene compound has an aryl oxo structure having at least one substituent having a σm -value larger than 0 or a heteroaryl oxo structure having a unified aromatic index IA larger than 53. A thermographic recording method is used for the recording material.

CONSTITUTION: An objective thermodevelopable recording material is obtd. by mixing (A) an org. silver salt, such as silver stearate or phthalate, (B) a reducing agent, such as p-methoxyphenol or hydroquinone, (C) a binder, such as polyvinyl alcohol or gelatin, and (D) a compd. having formula I (R 1 is H, OH, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, or alkoxy; X is S or =N-R 2 ; R 2 is H, amino, alkyl, aryl, alkenyl; and Y is SO 2 or CO), such as formula II or III; disolving the mixture in warer or an org. solvent, or the like; coating a support with said solution; and forming a thermodevelopable image recording layer.
