PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the cohesion of ink in an ink application sub-system for a variable data digital lithography sub-system.SOLUTION: An ink application subsystem 46 includes forming rollers 46a, 46b that are disposed so as to receive inks on their surfaces and to supply the inks from an ink reservoir to a reimageable surface of a variable data digital lithography system; and a heating element 59 disposed in the vicinity of the forming rollers 46a, 46b so as to preferentially provide the heating of the forming rollers 46a, 46b at points of ink application executed by the forming rollers 46a, 46b on the reimageable surface.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which is as simple as an electrophotographic system printer, produces "a plate" at a high speed on demand, and has image quality equivalent to that of offset printing; and a printing method. SOLUTION: The printer using a rewritable plate has a first plate forming body which forms the rewritable plate, a latent image forming means for the first plate forming body, a protrusion forming means which makes ink-repelling particles adhere selectively to a part wherein the latent image on the surface of the first plate forming body is formed, a second plate forming body which accepts/holds the ink repelling particles adhered to the surface of the first plate forming body by recesses formed in the surface, a pressing means which pushes the ink repelling particles into the recesses, and a recording material supply means for supplying a recording material onto the surface of the second plate forming body. The surface of the ink repelling particle has a property to repel the recording material, and the surfaces of the plate forming bodies are made to have a property not to repel the recording material. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing method good in ink transfer, a printing apparatus, a printing plate used in it, and a pattern film. SOLUTION: The printing method includes a process in which with the use of a repellent intaglio in which a projection 3 is an ink-affinitive layer 13, and a recess 2 is an ink-repellent layer 12, the whole surface of the repellent intaglio is coated with an ink layer 14, a process in which a substrate 1 is contacted with the repellent intaglio through the ink layer 14, and process in which by making the substrate 1 secede from the repellent intaglio, the ink layer arranged on the upper surface of the ink-repellent layer of the repellent intaglio is transferred to the substrate.
