A door having a peripheral resilient seal is attached to the power inlet enclosure to provide a weathertight seal when the door is in a closed position. An interlock for aligned switch members, which are movable toward each other to an ON position and away from each other to an OFF position, includes a pair of engagement members and a connector member extending therebetween. Each engagement member includes a planar retainer section which extends outwardly and is adapted for receipt within a passage defined by the switch member, for guiding axial movement of the engagement members relative to the switch members. Each engagement member further includes a pair of upstanding tabs, and the engagement members are positioned such that the tabs are located adjacent each other between the switches. The connector member includes an upper wall located above the plane of the retainer sections, and depending side walls which are interconnected with the tabs via screws which pass through openings in the tabs and into aligned, threaded openings in the depending side walls. The interlock is simple in its components and installation, and provides a strong, positive interlock structure which can be used in either an original installation or in a retrofit application.

A power inlet box for use in a system for interconnecting a power generator to the electrical system of a building. The power inlet box is electrically interconnected with the main electrical panel of the electrical system, such as through a transfer panel and appropriate wiring, cables and fittings. The power inlet box includes a base member or housing for mounting to the exterior of a building and which defines an internal cavity. The base member includes a front, outwardly facing opening and a top, upwardly facing opening, each of which provides access to the internal cavity of the base member. The power inlet box further includes a cover member adapted for engagement with the base member. The cover member includes a front wall which engages and overlies the base member to enclose the base member front opening. The cover member further includes a top wall extending rearwardly from the front wall and which overlies the base member upwardly facing opening. A socket assembly is interconnected with the cover member, and includes a power inlet for receiving a connector at the end of a cord for providing power to the building electrical system from the auxiliary generator, through the transfer panel. Flanges extend from the edges of the cover member front and top walls, for overlapping the ends of the base member walls to provide a shingle construction preventing ingress of water into the base member internal cavity. The provision of openings in the base member providing access to the internal cavity in two different directions facilitates manipulation of wires connected to the socket for placement within the internal cavity when the cover member is being moved toward the base member for mounting. Further, the provision of separate front and top walls on the cover member functions to provide a highly effective arrangement for preventing ingress of water into the internal cavity through the joint between the cover member and the base member.

Each multiple switch assembly includes a two-pole transfer switch for a pair of “hot” conductors, and a single-pole transfer switch for a neutral connection. The interlock assembly is movably mounted relative to both of the multiple switch assemblies, and is configured to control a sequence of connection and interruption of each neutral connection relative to switching the hot conductors associated with switching each multiple switch assembly. The interlock assembly prevents the “hot” conductors of each multiple switch assembly from being connected without the associated respective neutral connection having been made in advance. The interlock assembly also ensures that the neutral connection of each multiple switch assembly is interrupted without previous interruption of the connection of the respective “hot” conductors.
