Provided are methods and compositions for treating hepatitis virus infections in mammals, especially humans. The methods comprise (1) administering N-substituted-1,5-dideoxy-1,5-imino-D-glucitol compounds alone or in combination with nucleoside antiviral agents, nucleotide antiviral agents, mixtures thereof, or immunomodulating/immunostimulating agents, or (2) administering N-substituted-1,5-dideoxy-1,5-imino-D-glucitol compounds alone or in combination with nucleoside antiviral agents, nucleotide antiviral agents, or mixtures thereof, and immunomodulating/immuno-stimulating agents.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an exercise bar for use in rehabilitative therapy of joint structures, especially those of an impaired limb of a user. The exercise bar preferably comprises an elongated shaft having a longitudinal axis and two ends, a loop member comprising a loop attached to a first end of the shaft, and a handle member attached to a second end of the shaft at an angle to both the longitudinal axis of the shaft and the plane defined by the loop of the loop member. The loop preferably is in the shape of an isosceles triangle with the angles forming arcuated notches for receiving a portion of the user's impaired limb. Once the user's limb is seated within one of the notches, the shaft may be rotated about it axis to enable rotational, resistive stretching of a first joint complex or may be reciprocated along its axis to enable the performance of various exercises.
Abstract:
A method of treatment of inflamed, pre-cancerous or cancerous tissue or polyps in a mammalian subject is disclosed. The treatment involves administration of a composition of at least one peptide agonist of a guanylate cyclase receptor and/or other small molecules that enhance intracellular production of cGMP. The at least one peptide agonist of a guanylate cyclase receptor may be administered either alone or in combination with an inhibitor of cGMP-dependent phosphodiesterase. The inhibitor may be a small molecule, peptide, protein or other compound that inhibits the degradation of cGMP. Without requiring a particular mechanism of action, this treatment may restore a healthy balance between proliferation and apoptosis in the subject's population of epithelial cells, and also suppress carcinogenesis. Thus, the method may be used to treat, inter alia, inflammation, including gastrointestinal inflammatory disorders, general organ inflammation and asthma, and carcinogenesis of the lung, gastrointestinal tract, bladder, testis, prostate and pancreas, or polyps.
Abstract:
A method of analysing a sequence of images of a deformable object in non-rigid motion involves modeling the boundary using a non-rigid contour. A representation of movement of the contour through the sequence of images is calculated using a tracking space shape. The calculated movement representation is decomposed using an interpretational space shape that is different than the tracking space shape.
Abstract:
A storage rack for storing compact disc, cassette and videotape cases in a vertical stack. The storage rack consists of a base having a tower support with a top surface set at a predetermined oblique angle. Modular components are stacked on top of the base to form a storage tower. The modular components and the corresponding storage slots are also oriented at the predetermined oblique angle. The stored cases disposed in the slots display their title at an upwardly turned angle which makes them easy to view. The base may be equipped with several tower supports to support several storage towers facing in similar or different directions.
