    摘要: In a radio access network, the reverse link rate of an access terminal is controlled and stabilized by determining a number of connections in one or more sectors in which the access terminal has a connection and setting a rate limit based on at least one of the determined number of connections. The number of connections can be determined for each sector in which the access terminal has a connection or for some subset of these sectors. If the number of connections is determined for more than one sector, the radio access network may limit the reverse link rate based on the sector having the greatest number of connections.

    摘要: Techniques for transmitting encoded data packets to one or more mobile stations in a communication system including a cell that has sectors serving at least partially different geographic areas. The techniques include transmitting in a first sector an encoded data packet in one or more time slots to a mobile station; reducing transmission power in a second sector during one or more of the time slots in which the first sector transmits the data packet to the mobile station; decoding at the mobile station the encoded data packet after each time slot; transmitting by the mobile station a signal indicating acknowledgment of the packet reception when the decoding of the packet is successful; and in response to receiving the acknowledgement signal, ceasing transmission of the data packet in the first sector in subsequent time slots.

    摘要: In a cellular network, randomness is introduced into a transmitted signal at each transmitter, and the resulting received signal, which is the sum of all received signals, fluctuates more in time than a signal transmitted without the introduced randomness. While the introduction of randomness can diminish reception of some parts of the signal at the receiver, the transmitted signal can be encoded using forward error correction coding techniques, which allows the receiver to recover all of the signal information despite some diminished reception. Such randomization provides time diversity so that receivers can have more consistent performance. For broadcasted data, where users with the worst channel condition dictates the overall performance, having consistent performance across users can improve the overall network performance.
