    Abstract: A vehicle safety assembly including an inflatable bag which is attached to a cup-shaped member defining an annular chamber. A diffuser is disposed within the bag and a gas generator is in communication with the annular chamber in the cup-shaped member. The cup-shaped member has a hole centrally thereof for receiving the steering shaft and a pair of brackets interconnect the diffuser and the spokes of the steering wheel whereby the assembly may be associated with conventional steering assemblies.

    Abstract: A vehicle seat supporting mechanism which serves as the means for adjusting a one-piece seat structure forwardly and rearwardly to accommodate different drivers and passengers and also as a means for pivoting the seat forwardly to permit access to the rear seat of the vehicle. The front of the seat is supported on a pair of spaced pivotal links and the rear portion is supported on a rod movable within a curvilinear slot so that upon movement of the seat the front end of the seat will be advanced forwardly and downwardly by the pair of links and the rear end will be advanced forwardly and upwardly by movement of the rod within the slot. The rear portion of the slot is relatively straight and a manually operable lock and release mechanism provides a means for locking the seat in a selected adjusted portion. A latch mechanism releases the lock mechanism and permits the seat to be moved forwardly of the straight portion of the slot to permit the seat to be tipped for access to the rear section of the vehicle.

    Abstract: A self-contained seat and restraint system including a semirigid seat shell having a channel about the rear and sides thereof, a fixed, beltless buckle in one side of the channel, and a retractable lap belt guided through and by the other side of the channel.     Abstract: A rearview mirror assembly for attachment to the outside of a vehicle, such as a motor car, at a convenient location for the driver to see and reach for manual adjustment, which is provided with a ball and socket swivel joint secured by a pretensioned adjustable spring retainer. The mirror is supported on a stem which extends into a mirror support column having a ball on the other end for swivel support within a ball socket formed in the base support bracket and the ball is retained in the ball socket by an adjustable pretensioned leaf spring, the construction being such that all members can be preassembled together in a convenient manner. The supporting portions of the mirror are made of plastic material of such strength, at least at the swivel joint, as to break or snap off under impact to provide a safety feature.

    Abstract: A two-tongue buckle assembly including a housing into which first and second tongues may be inserted. A first latch means including an elongated latch bar is biased upwardly by a spring toward the latched position and is movable downwardly by a pushbutton to the unlatched position to coact with the first tongue when inserted thereinto to retain the first tongue in the latched position. A second latch means is included and comprising a support member rotatably connected to the housing and having an arcuate upturned flange on one end for abutting engagement with the first tongue and having a movable latch member supported by a resilient leaf spring at the other end. The resiliently supported latch member is moved by the support member into the path of the second tongue by the first tongue being inserted into the housing and engaging the upturned flange of the support member to rotate the support member so that the latch member movably supported thereon is in the path of the second tongue for latching engagement therewith. The second tongue is therefore retained in the latched position only when the first tongue is inserted into the housing and into the latched position.
