Abstract:
There is proposed a vehicle seat configured to support an occupant (401) in a sitting position, the seat comprising: a squab (27), a backrest (28), and an airbag unit. The airbag unit comprises an inflatable bag (1) and an inflator (34). The airbag comprises an inflatable chamber (8, 9; 208). The airbag further comprises an inflatable guide (2), connected to the inflator and the inflatable chamber. Upon actuation of said inflator, said inflatable guide is at least partially inflated before the inflatable chamber, thereby initially urging the inflatable chamber away from the backrest of the seat. The airbag is configured such that after the inflatable guide is at least partially inflated, the inflatable chamber inflates into a deployed position in which it defines an inflated shroud which extends over said sitting position and provides lateral protection to said occupant of the seat in said sitting position.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to an airbag assembly and a vehicle seat comprising the airbag assembly. The airbag assembly is adapted to be mounted at a side of a vehicle front seat away from its neighboring vehicle door, and includes a folded airbag adapted to be inflated with gas and to be connected to a backrest frame of the vehicle front seat; and a tether for controlling deployment of the airbag. A first end of the tether is connected to the airbag and a second end of the tether is adapted to be connected to the backrest frame. The airbag is configured to be restrained by the tether and the filling so as to be disposed along a side contour of the backrest frame in a bent state.
Abstract:
There is proposed a vehicle seat configured to support an occupant (42) in a sitting position, the seat comprising: a squab (27), a backrest (28), and an airbag unit. The airbag unit comprises an inflatable airbag (1) provided in an initially rolled and/or folded airbag package (33), and an inflator (34) actuable to direct inflating gas into the airbag (1) to inflate the airbag into an inflated configuration. The airbag (1) comprises a pair of inflatable chambers (8, 9) which are physically connected to one another via a connecting interface (17), and are fluidly isolated from one another. The airbag unit is mounted and configured such that, upon actuation of said inflator (34) to inflate the airbag (1), said inflatable chambers (8, 9) inflate into respective deployed positions in which they: i) extend forwardly from respective opposing and laterally spaced-apart side regions of said backrest (28); and ii) extend upwardly, and laterally inwardly across an uppermost region of the seat towards said connecting interface (17), so as to thereby cooperate to define an inflated shroud around at least an uppermost region of the backrest (28) so as to extend over said sitting position and provide lateral protection to a said occupant (42) of the seat in said sitting position.
Abstract:
A far side airbag apparatus for a vehicle for installation at a side of a frame of a backrest of a seat directed toward an inner center portion of the vehicle such that the far side airbag is expanded and deployed between at least two backrests arranged widthwise along the vehicle. The far side airbag includes an inner part directed toward an occupant seated in a direction opposite to a collision side of the vehicle upon vehicle collision and an outer part directed toward the inner center portion of the vehicle upon vehicle collision. When a vehicle collision occurs, for example, when a side inclination collision of the vehicle occurs, the occupant seated in opposition to the collision side of the vehicle may be prevented from abruptly moving toward the front portion and the inner center portion of the vehicle out of the protection range of the far side airbag. Thus, collision between occupants seated on a driver seat and an occupant seat can be effectively prevented.
Abstract:
A far-side airbag device of a vehicle includes an airbag which is unfolded upon inflation between at least two backrests arranged in the width direction of the vehicle and includes an inner panel facing a passenger and an outer panel facing the central axis of the vehicle at the time of inflation. The far-side airbag device includes a rotation preventing bracket for pressing the rear end of the airbag to prevent the airbag from rotating about the rear end of the airbag by an impact from the passenger at the time of collision of the vehicle, so that it is possible to increase a restraining force for preventing the passenger from moving toward the inside of the vehicle by preventing the airbag from rotating about a fastening portion on the rear end by the impact applied from the passenger due to the collision of the vehicle.
Abstract:
A vehicle seat and an airbag system, the seat having a backrest and a squab, extending from the backrest in a longitudinal direction, the backrest extending in height from the squab at a first lower position to a second upper position arranged proximal to shoulders of an occupant in a seated position, the airbag system having an airbag to receive inflating gas from an inflator to inflate the airbag, in which the airbag includes an upper region that extends over a head of the occupant in the seated position and a lower region that extends between a first and second side of the backrest and around a mid-section of the seated occupant, the airbag system having a tether system interconnecting the seat at the second upper position of the backrest and airbag to restrain the lower region of the airbag in the inflated configuration in the longitudinal direction.
Abstract:
Provided is a side airbag for side collision which is deployed between two seats in a width direction of a vehicle to prevent occupants siting on the two seats from colliding with each other. The airbag includes a chest protective area to protect a chest of an occupant; a head protective area extending upward from the chest protective area to protect a head of the occupant; and a support area extending rearward from the head protective area and making contact with a head rest, which is provided on an upper portion of a back of the seat, so as to be supported by the head rest, wherein, the support area of the airbag is supported by the head rest when the vehicle collision occurs to prevent a head of an occupant who sits near a crashed side from moving rearward of the head protective area, thereby preventing the head of the occupant sitting near the crashed side from colliding with a head of a counterparty occupant who faces the occupant sitting near the crashed side in the width direction of the vehicle.
Abstract:
An airbag unit for a motor vehicle safety device includes an inflatable airbag formed of flexible material and provided in a rolled and/or folded package. The package is held under compression by a cover which extends around at least part of the package. The cover is formed from a ductile fabric material including polymeric fibres, at least some of the fibres fused to one another to impart a predetermined stable shape to the unit. A method of packaging the airbag includes providing an inflatable airbag formed of flexible sheet material; rolling and/or folding the airbag and at least partially wrapping it with an initially flexible cover to form an intermediate package, the cover formed from a ductile fabric material including polymeric fibres; simultaneously heating and pressing the intermediate package to form a compressed package in which at least some of the fibres are fused to one another, the compressed package having a stable shape defined by the fused fibres.
