    Abstract: An X-ray inspection system for scanning objects and providing corresponding contrast controlled scan images is provided. The system includes an X-ray source configured to generate an X-ray beam for irradiating the object where the X-ray source is coupled with at least a first beam filter having a first thickness and a second beam filter having a second thickness greater than the first thickness, a detector array, a processing unit, a user interface configured to receive a user input indicative of a desired level of contrast in an image, and a controller configured to adjust a position of at least one of the first or second beam filters based on the user input indicative of the desired level of contrast in the at least one image.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining the distance to a specified point or distances between specified points on one or more objects, where the specified points are obscured behind an opaque barrier and cannot be viewed. Specified points are illuminated with penetrating radiation from two or more successive locations, and scattered radiation from the specified points is detected, and distance is calculated based on illumination angles.     Abstract: Methods and apparatus for parcel inspection with x-rays. A source of penetrating radiation contained entirely within an enclosing body of a conveyance generates a beam of penetrating radiation incident upon a parcel while the parcel is disposed externally to the enclosing body. A detector generates an inspection signal based on detection of penetrating radiation after interaction with contents of the parcel. A conveyor positions the parcel with respect to the beam of penetrating radiation, while a processor ascertains a specified characteristic of the parcel based on the inspection signal.
