Abstract: Electronic devices may be provided with optical components such as displays and sensors that emit and/or detect visible and/or infrared light. The optical components may be mounted in a housing and covered by a textured glass cover layer. The textured glass cover layer may have an antireflection coating formed from a stack of alternating higher index and lower index inorganic dielectric layers. An outermost one of the inorganic dielectric layers may have a hardness greater than quartz to help the antireflection coating resist abrasion. The coating may optionally include a layer of diamond-like carbon to reduce friction and an oleophobic polymer coating to resist fingerprint smudging.

Abstract: An electronic device may have a display and may be configured to fold about a bend axis that overlaps the display. The display may have a display cover layer formed from three layers of glass fused together. The display cover layer may have outer glass layers that have lower coefficients of thermal expansion than a core inner layer that is formed between the outer glass layers. This places the outer glass layers into deep compressive stress relative to the inner layer, which is under tensile stress. A notch may be formed in one of the outer glass layers to enhance flexibility of the display cover layer in a strip-shaped notch region that extends along the bend axis. An exposed portion of the inner glass layer in the notch may be chemically strengthened.

Abstract: Asymmetrically strengthened glass articles, methods for producing the same, and use of the articles in portable electronic device is disclosed. The asymmetrically strengthened glass articles include glass articles having a deeper compressive stress layer in a thicker portion of the glass article. Using a budgeted amount of compressive stress and tensile stress, asymmetric chemical strengthening is optimized for the utility of a glass article. In some aspects, the strengthened glass article can be designed for reduced damage, or damage propagation, when dropped.
