摘要: A laminated glass article comprises a core layer comprising a core glass composition having an average core coefficient of thermal expansion (CTEcore) and a clad layer directly adjacent to the core layer and comprising a clad glass composition having an average clad coefficient of thermal expansion (CTEclad) that is less than the CTEcore such that the clad layer is in compression and the core layer is in tension. A compressive stress of the clad layer increases with increasing distance from the outer surface of the clad layer, transitions to a minimum tensile stress as a step-change at an interface region between the core layer and the clad layer, and a magnitude of the tensile stress increases continuously to a maximum tensile stress in the core layer. Other stress profiles, and methods of preparing laminated glass articles are also disclosed.

摘要: Embodiments of a glass-based article including a first surface and a second surface opposing the first surface defining a thickness (t) of about 3 millimeters or less (e.g., about 1 millimeter or less), and a stress profile, wherein all points of the stress profile between a thickness range from about 0·t up to 0.3·t and from greater than about 0.7·t up to t, comprise a tangent with a slope having an absolute value greater than about 0.1 MPa/micrometer, are disclosed. In some embodiments, the glass-based article includes a non-zero metal oxide concentration that varies along at least a portion of the thickness (e.g., 0·t to about 0.3·t) and a maximum central tension in the range from about 80 MPa to about 100 MPa. In some embodiments, the concentration of metal oxide or alkali metal oxide decreases from the first surface to a value at a point between the first surface and the second surface and increases from the value to the second surface. The concentration of the metal oxide may be about 0.05 mol % or greater or about 0.5 mol % or greater throughout the thickness. Methods for forming such glass-based articles are also disclosed.

摘要: The present approaches are in the in the field of vacuum (or pneumatic) elevators, where the elevator cabin is brought into motion in a vertically situated or vertically inclined and hermetically sealed elevator shaft by means of aerial pressure differential above and below the elevator cabin. Such approaches do not require having any ropes, pulleys, chains, gears, or hydraulics that are traditionally used in conventional elevator systems. More specifically, the present approaches are in the field of panoramic vacuum elevators, where the elevator hoistway is built of panoramic glass panels running from floor to ceiling of every floor and the elevator cabin is built of panoramic glass panels running from floor to the ceiling of the cabin, and that this type of elevator does not incorporate any metal constructive structures—frames, mesh, guides or rails that are traditionally used in every conventional elevator product.

The glass has at least one feature selected from: a sodium exchange depth, a storable tensile stress, a network former content of at least 82 wt %, a content of alkali oxides of at most 12 wt %, a content of alkali oxides of at most 10 wt %, and any combinations thereof.

摘要: The low-loss ion exchanged (IOX) waveguide disclosed herein includes a glass substrate having a top surface and comprising an alkali-aluminosilicate glass with between 3 and 15 mol % of Na2O and a concentration of Fe of 20 parts per million (ppm) or less. The glass substrate includes a buried Ag—Na IOX region, wherein this region and a surrounding portion of glass substrate define the IOX waveguide. The IOX waveguide has an optical loss OL≤0.05 dB/cm and a birefringence magnitude |B|≤0.001. The glass substrate with multiple IOX waveguides can be used as an optical backplane for systems having optical functionality and can find use in data center and high-performance data transmission applications.
