    Abstract: A transfer case for a vehicle having a selective four wheel drive mode of operation is provided. The transfer case includes a front shell boltably connected with a rear shell, a front axle output shaft and sprocket, and a main input shaft torsionally connected with a transmission and rear axle of the vehicle. A main sprocket is provided, rotatably mounted on the main input shaft. The sprocket has an axial extension. A chain torsionally connects the main sprocket with the front axle output sprocket. A clutch housing having a splined opening is torsionally connected with the main sprocket extension. A hub is spline connected on the main input shaft. A clutch pack is selectively torsionally connected with the clutch housing and with the hub. A pressure plate is provided to actuate the clutch pack. An electrically powered ball ramp mechanism is provided for axially displacing the pressure plate to torsionally join the main input shaft to the front axle input shaft causing the main sprocket extension to contact the hub.

    Abstract: A driveline component with a shaft, a friction clutch and a centrifugal valve. The shaft has a supply passage and a feed passage that intersects the supply passage. The centrifugal valve has a valve seat, which is formed on the shaft and intersects the feed passage, a valve element and a flyweight that is pivotally coupled to the shaft. The valve element is received in the valve seat and is movable between a first position, in which the valve element is abutted against the valve seat, and a second position in which the valve element is displaced from the valve seat. The flyweight has a weight and a cam and is configured so that radially outward rotation of the weight in response to centrifugal force causes the cam to drive the valve element toward the first position.

    Abstract: A transfer case comprises a primary output shaft, a secondary output shaft, a clutch, and a plurality of valves. The primary output shaft includes a hub rotationally coupled thereto. The clutch selectively couples the primary output shaft to the secondary output shaft to transfer torque therebetween. The clutch includes a housing, interleaved plates, and an apply plate. The housing is rotationally coupled to the secondary output shaft. The interleaved plates alternate between a first subset of the interleaved plates rotationally coupled to the hub and a second subset of the interleaved plates rotationally coupled to the housing. The apply plate compresses the interleaved plates for transferring torque between the hub and the housing. The valves selectively release oil supplied through the primary output shaft into the housing. Each valve includes a bore formed in the hub and a valve rod movable by the apply plate to open the valve.
