Abstract: An insulating, moldable monolithic refractory material for lining furnaces and the method of producing the same is disclosed. The material comprises diatomaceous earth which has been calcined for maximum volume stability, bentonite or other plastic clay materials and water. Also included may be expanded perlite for its insulating and strengthening characteristics and aluminum phosphate for its binding effect.
