Abstract: An ignition apparatus includes an ignition plug, a boost transformer, an ignition power source and a measurement unit. The ignition plug has a center electrode and a ground electrode. The boost transformer supplies the ignition plug with electric power generated in a secondary coil upon supply of AC power from the ignition power source to a primary coil. The measurement unit measures the discharge voltage of the ignition plug. The ignition power source includes a discharge state determining unit that determines the discharge state of the ignition plug based on the measured discharge voltage and a current controlling unit that controls electric current supplied to the primary coil. When a discharge path formed between the center and ground electrodes of the ignition plug is determined by the discharge state determining unit as being in an over-extended state, the current controlling unit reduces the electric current supplied to the primary coil.

Abstract: An ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided which includes a state-of-discharge determiner working to determine whether a center and a ground electrode of a spark plug are electrically conducting with each other or insulated from each other. When the center and ground electrodes are determined to be conducted with each other, the ignition apparatus alters controlled conditions of a high-frequency power supply which supplies a high-frequency power to the spark plug so as to decrease an average of a primary voltage outputted from the high-frequency power supply to the spark plug, thereby reducing an actual current flowing between the center and ground electrodes of the spark plug. This eliminates the risk of mechanical wear of the center and ground electrodes which usually arises from the flow of high current between the center and ground electrodes, thus resulting in an increase in service life of the spark plug.

Abstract: An electrochemical cell is configured by laminating a working electrode, a counter electrode, a separator, a working electrode collector material and a counter electrode current collector. The working electrode adsorbs the gas to be recovered. The counter electrode transfers electrons to and from the working electrode. The separator is disposed between the working electrode and the counter electrode to prevent physical contact between the working electrode and the counter electrode to suppress electrical shorts from occurring. The working electrode current collector contacts the working electrode and electrically connects the working electrode to the counter electrode. The counter electrode current collector contacts the counter electrode and electrically connects the working electrode to the counter electrode. The counter electrode sealing member is disposed to cover the counter electrode and the counter electrode current collector with respect to the electrochemical cell to suppress contact between the mixed gas and the counter electrode.
