Abstract: A system and method of generating machine marking instructions for marking an ophthalmic lens is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of receiving lens order data related to a lens order, receiving an initial marking layout and calculating, using the lens order data, ophthalmic lens data of an ophthalmic lens related to the lens order. The method also comprises the steps of determining, using the ophthalmic lens data, marking parameters relating to the ophthalmic lens, producing an additional marking layout by modifying the initial marking layout using the marking parameters and the lens order data, the additional marking layout representing the markings to be applied to the ophthalmic lens, and generating machine marking instructions arranged to cause a marking machine to mark the ophthalmic lens in accordance with the additional marking layout.

A laser marking process configured to produce permanent engravings on an ophthalmic lens (3) via this device is also described.

Abstract: A method for evaluating an ophthalmic lens for a given wearer according to a visual performance parameter includes providing wearer's data for the given wearer. The method further includes providing a visual performance parameter tolerance range for the wearer. The method further includes providing an ophthalmic lens to be evaluated, the ophthalmic lens being characterized by opto-geometrical features. The method further includes computing a value of the visual performance parameter for the lens to be evaluated on the basis of a model. The method further includes evaluating the ophthalmic lens by comparing the computed value of the visual performance parameter with the visual performance parameter tolerance range.

Abstract: Method for providing a referencing element to an optical lens member. An optical lens member is provided which has a first optical surface, with a surface design associated with a first reference system, and a second optical surface to be manufactured. The first and second optical surfaces are connected by an external periphery surface. The first optical surface of the optical lens member is measured, and the first reference system is determined. The reference system is determined according to the shape and orientation of the first optical surface. A referencing element is added to the optical lens member, with the referencing element identifying the first reference system.

Abstract: On a first aspect, the spectacle lens is selected as including a transparent support in which is coded an identifier readable by an external reading tool for retrieving the identifier. A distant server is contacted using the identifier and data related to the spectacle lens is so gathered. On a second aspect, data related to the spectacle lens is provided to a predetermined database. Upon receiving a request issued from a requester, the database is accessed and at least some of the data is retrieved, the request including at least part of the identifier, and the retrieved data is sent to the requester.
