Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for providing and using a broadcast service. Multiple layers of contents may be provided over a broadcast network and a communication network. A terminal may acquire the multiple layers over the broadcast network and the communication network. When a specified layer cannot be acquired over the broadcast network, the terminal may acquire the specified layer over the communication network, using service-layer signaling information provided over the broadcast network. The service-layer signaling information may include information used to acquire the specified layer over the communication network.
Abstract:
A device for transmitting a media service in a hybrid network, which is a combination of a broadcasting network and a communication network, includes a streaming server, a streaming client, a multiplexer, and a transmitter. The streaming server generates media segments including media data and a metadata file including temporal order information and downloading and reproduction information of the media segments corresponding to a plurality of profiles. The streaming client selects a profile according to a transmission bit ratio appropriate for a broadcasting resource allocation state, requests a media segment with quality that is suitable for the broadcasting resource allocation state from the streaming server, and downloads the same. The multiplexer multiplexes part of information of the metadata file on the profile selected from among the media segment and the metadata file of the plurality of profiles to generate a baseband frame. The transmitter converts the baseband frame into a broadcasting signal and transmits the same through a broadcasting network.

Disclosed are a dynamic multi-mode service (MMS) transmission apparatus, a dynamic MMS reception apparatus, and a method for providing a dynamic MMS. The method includes generating, by the dynamic MMS transmission apparatus, signaling information including information about linkage between service channels based on broadcast schedule information about a broadcast service; transmitting, by the dynamic MMS transmission apparatus, the signaling information and the broadcast service to the dynamic MMS reception apparatus through at least one of a broadcast network and a broadband network; receiving, by the dynamic MMS reception apparatus, the signaling information and the broadcast service; interpreting, by the dynamic MMS reception apparatus, the information about the linkage between service channels, included in the signaling information, by decoding the signaling information; and providing, by the dynamic MMS reception apparatus, the broadcast service by performing dynamic channel switching based on the information about the linkage between service channels.

Disclosed herein are a method for broadcast gateway signaling using a cloud network and an apparatus for the same. The method includes generating an outer packet corresponding to the outer layer of a tunneling system using an inner packet corresponding to the inner layer of the tunneling system, generating a header of the outer packet, and transmitting the outer packet to a transmitter through a Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL). The header includes an STL propagation delay time field indicating a reception wait time for an STL stream corresponding to the outer packet.

Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for transmitting an 8K Scalable High Efficiency Video Coding (SHVC) service based on broadcast network interconnection. The method includes defining signaling information for the 8K SHVC service, and delivering the defined signaling information to a MPEG Media Transport (MMT)/Real time Object delivery Over Unidirectional Transport (ROUTE) packetizer or to a gateway, separating 8K content into a base layer compatible with a broadcast network and an enhancement layer compatible with a communication network, delivering the base layer from the MMT/ROUTE packetizer to a receiver through the gateway and a transmitter, and delivering the enhancement layer to the receiver through a Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) server.

Disclosed herein are a method for transmitting a broadcast signal for signaling information about a combination of Layered-Division Multiplexing (LDM) technology and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology and an apparatus using the method. The method includes generating first signaling information indicating whether MIMO technology is applied to an enhanced layer by LDM technology, generating second signaling information indicating an MIMO application method when the MIMO technology is applied to the enhanced layer, and generating a broadcast signal using the first signaling information and the second signaling information.

The broadcast signal reception method using network switching includes determining, by a broadcast signal reception apparatus, a network-switching time point based on a network-switching condition that is set in consideration of at least one of a characteristics of a broadcast signal received over a broadcast network during a preset time period and a continuity of packets received over the broadcast network during the preset time period, and receiving, by the broadcast signal reception apparatus, the broadcast signal by performing network switching to a broadband network at the network-switching time point.
