Abstract: A tunneling device includes a body assembly, an expander coupled to the body assembly and extending along a longitudinal axis, and a tip coupled to the expander. The expander is disposed between a force transmitter and the tip. The expander is expandable in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis between a first configuration having a first width measured perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and a second configuration having a second width measured perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The tip has a width measured perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The first width of the expander is equal to or less than the width of the tip. The force transmitter is configured to deliver a force through the expander to the tip to move the tip in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis with the expander in the second configuration.

Abstract: An electric machine includes at least one rotor module. A rotor module includes a rotor hub having a hub body, and a plurality of first protrusions and a plurality of second protrusions. One or more first protrusions include an elongated portion and a head portion. One or more second protrusions include a wedge-shaped profile. The rotor module further includes a magnetic core having a plurality of core members disposed on the rotor hub. A core member of the plurality of core members is disposed such that the head portion of the first protrusion located between the adjacent second protrusions engages with the core member, and each of the one or more second protrusions extends at least partially in a space between adjacent core members of the plurality of core members. Moreover, the rotor module includes a permanent magnet disposed in a space between the adjacent core members.

Abstract: A combustion system includes an annular tube disposed between an inner wall and an outer wall, the annular tube extending from an inlet end to an outlet end; at least one fluid inlet disposed in the annular tube proximate the inlet end, the fluid inlet providing a conduit through which fluid flows into the annular tube; at least one outlet disposed in the annular tube proximate the outlet end; and at least one cooling feature disposed at an underside of the inner wall or the outer wall. The cooling feature maintains a temperature of the inner wall or the outer wall within a predetermined range.

Abstract: An electric motor may include a stator assembly comprising a stator housing, and one or more rotors coupled to the stator by a rotor shaft assembly. The stator housing may include a cooling structure that has a plurality of cooling body portions and a plurality of cooling conduits defined by the plurality of cooling body portions. A method of forming a stator housing for an electric machine may include additively manufacturing a stator housing that includes a cooling structure defining a fluid domain, coupling a working fluid source to the stator housing and introducing a working fluid into the fluid domain defined by the cooling structure, and sealing the cooling structure with the working fluid contained within the fluid domain of the cooling structure. A method of cooling an electric machine may include heating the working fluid in the fluid domain and flowing the working fluid through the fluid domain, and transferring heat from the cooling structure to a cooling fluid flowing along one or more cooling surfaces contacting a surface of the electric machine.

Abstract: A portable neutron generator is provided that does not utilize liquid cooling. The portable neutron generator includes a vacuum chamber housing defining a vacuum chamber and an ion beam inlet. The portable neutron generator also includes a rotating target positioned within the vacuum chamber. The ion beam inlet is oriented to receive ions such that the ions impinge upon the rotating target to cause neutrons to be emitted. The rotating target comprises a copper alloy. The portable neutron generator also includes a motor core positioned within the vacuum chamber and coupled to the rotating target. A motor stator is electromagnetically coupled with the motor core. The motor core is configured to rotate the rotating target at greater than 200 Hz during operation.

Abstract: A navigation apparatus for use in navigating a pipe having a sidewall defining an interior cavity is provided. The navigation apparatus includes a body assembly having a first end and a second end and configured to move through the interior cavity of the pipe. The navigation apparatus also includes a channel defining a fluid passageway extending at least partly between the first end and the second end of the body assembly, an inlet for fluid from the interior cavity of the pipe to enter the fluid passageway, and an outlet for the fluid to exit the fluid passageway and return to the interior cavity of the pipe.
