2-PERFLUOROALKYL ETHANOLS ARE OBTAINED BY REACTING 2PERFLUORO-ALKYL ETHYLIODIDES WITH AT LEAST THE TWO-FOLD MOLAR AMOUNT OF NITRIC ACID OF ABOUT 70 TO 98% STRENGTH AND HYDROGENATING THE INTERMEDIATES,WHICH ARE THE NITRATES OF THE DESIRED ETHANOLS. THE PRODUCTS ARE USEFUL AS STARTING MATERIALS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HYDROPHOBIC AND OLEOPHOBIC TEXTILE FINISHING AGENTS, E.G. THE POLYMER ACRYLATES AND METHACRYLATES OF SAID 2-PERFLUOROALKYL-ETHANOLS.

POLYADDUCTS ARE OBTAINED WHEN TREATING METHANES HAVING ETHYLENE-IMINE RINGS AND A POLYETHER CHAIN OR A FLUOROALKYL CHAIN WITH ACIDIC COMPOUNDS. THE POLYADDUCTS ARE TEXTILE FINISHING AGENTS RENDERING TEXTILES HYDROPHOBIC AND OLEOPHOBIC AND ACHIEVE THE SO-CALLED SOIL-RELEASE EFFECT.

NEW STABLE SULFONAMIDES CONTAINING A CF2 GROUP ADJACENT TO NITROGEN ARE OBTAINED BY REACTING N-MONO-SUBSTITUTED SULFONAMIDES WITH FLUORO-OLEFINS OR THE ALKALI METAL SALTS OF SAID SULFONAMIDES WITH FLUORO-HALOALKANES. THE PRODUCTS ARE USEFUL AS REACTIVE INTERMEDIATES FOR A VARITETY ORGANIC SYNTHESES AND-OWING TO THEIR POLARITY AND HIGH BOILING POINTS-AS VALUABLE SOLVENTS FOR SPARINGLY SOLUBLE ORGANIC OR INORGANIC COMPOUNDS.
