Abstract:
A method for providing circling approach data onboard an aircraft is disclosed. For a current, circling approach of the aircraft to a destination airport, the method identifies a circling approach procedure applicable to an optimal runway, by a processor communicatively coupled to a system memory element configured to store a database of circling approach procedures and a source for temporary restrictions; determines a circling boundary to the optimal runway, based on the circling approach procedure; determines temporary circling restrictions for the aircraft, based on conflicting traffic from at least a second airport; constructs a lateral path and a vertical path to guide the aircraft to the optimal runway of the destination airport, based on the circling approach procedure, the circling boundary, and the temporary circling restrictions; and presents graphical elements and text associated with the circling approach procedure, the circling boundary, and the temporary restrictions, by a display device.
Abstract:
A method for assisting pilots during an approach to an airport with a cold temperature restriction which includes: programming on a computing device, at least one processor to implement an algorithm of an app to automatically detect a temperature restriction of a particular airport with the cold temperature restriction and to calculate a cold temperature compensation based on data from published notices to airman (NOTAMs) and to generate data of a corrected altitude of the aircraft during an approach to the cold temperature restricted airport based on a first component of sensor data contributed from the current flight approach and based on a second component of data of NOTAMs; receiving sensor data to the at least one processor deployed on the aircraft; an associated memory for acquiring the published data; and executing an algorithm to calculate a corrected cold temperature altitude when approaching the airport with the cold weather restriction.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing the information contained in instrument procedure charts in a more intuitive and easier to comprehend manner is provided. The provided enhanced instrument procedure visualization system displays a dynamic three-dimensional view of a selected instrument procedure, and incorporates time-relevant information from weather and traffic sources. The provided enhanced instrument procedure visualization system further allows a pilot to scroll forward and backward in time to review and study the complete instrument procedure.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a touchscreen-enabled electronic device (referred to as a “digital pilot notepad”), methods, and program products facilitating the entry of handwritten pilot data into one or more flight deck systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, the digital pilot notepad includes an avionics interface over which alphanumeric input data is transmitted to a flight deck system, a touchscreen device, and a controller operably coupled to the avionics interface and to the touchscreen device. The controller is configured to digitally capture a handwritten pilot note written on the touchscreen device by a pilot, convert the handwritten pilot note to alphanumeric input data in a format compatible with the flight deck system, and subsequently submit the alphanumeric input data to the flight deck system over the avionics interface.
