An ink supply mechanism, which supplies ink from an ink container for storing ink to an ink jet recording unit which discharges ink, comprises a first filter member provided in an ink outlet section of the ink container; an ink supply passage which conductively connects the ink jet recording unit and the ink container for supplying ink from the ink container to the ink jet recording unit; and a second filter member provided in the ink supply passage between ink discharging ports of the recording unit and the first filter member. The second filter member is provided with holes which create the capillary force greater than the negative pressure in the ink container. With the above structure, it is possible to provide an ink jet recording apparatus capable of making the recovery amount compatible between a usual recording device and a recording device of a high-speed type, making a recording device of a high-speed type usable in a usual recording apparatus, and improving the ink usage efficiency in the recovery process.

A method for manufacturing a liquid discharge head comprises the steps of providing a head main body having liquid flow paths, and an aperture surface having flow path openings communicated with the flow paths; providing a discharge port plate having extrusions each on the circumference of an inside opening communicated with each of the discharge ports, being on the inner face on the side opposite to the discharge port surface provided with discharge ports for discharging liquid, and a base having a substantially flat surface. For this method, the discharge port plate is arranged in a state of these surfaces formed integrally to be in contact; bonding the aperture surface and the inner face to fit the extrusions into the flow path openings by pressing the head main body and the base in the direction of the head main body and the base approaching each other with the discharge port plate between them; and separating the base from other members. With the method of manufacture thus structure, the liquid discharge head presents an excellent discharge efficiency by the provision of the extrusions that enter the flow paths from the orifice plate. It also becomes possible to manufacture a highly reliable liquid discharge head by a simpler manufacturing apparatus in a shorter period of time at lower costs.

A liquid discharging method for discharging liquid, which uses the pressure exerted at the time of creating each of bubbles in liquid in a bubble generating area, is arranged to provide two bubble generating areas for generating bubbles in such a manner as to enable these areas to face each other at least partly, hence discharging liquid by means for the pressure thus exerted in the bubble generating areas. In this way, it becomes possible to increase the amount of liquid discharged, as well as to enhance the durability of the movable members, while stabilizing the discharge of liquid from each of the discharge openings.

A length of a melamine foamed block to be accommodated in an ink tank housing as measured in the longitudinal direction is dimensioned to be larger than a length of the ink tank housing as measured in the longitudinal direction. Thus, while the foamed block is accommodated in the ink tank housing, it is compressed in the direction orienting toward an ink feeding port from which ink is fed to a printing head, i.e., in the ink feeding direction. Consequently, the ink retaining force induced by the capillary force is not intensified in the compressing direction of the melamine foamed block, resulting in an ink feeding capability of the printing head being improved. On the contrary, the ink retaining force effective at a right angle relative to the compressing direction of the melamine foamed block is intensified.
