Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes: a first panel; a second panel disposed opposing one surface of the first panel; a light source configured to emit light to the other surface of the first panel; and an acquirer configured to acquire user information including information indicating at least one of a position of an eye and a position of a head of a user facing the second panel. The first panel includes light control pixels. The second panel includes pixels. Blurring processing is applied by which the light control pixel positioned around a pixel controlled to transmit light in accordance with an input image signal is caused to transmit light. A blurring area including the light control pixel to which the blurring processing is applied on the first panel corresponds to the position of the eye of the user or the position of the head of the user.

Abstract: A display device incudes: a display panel including a plurality of pixels; and a dimming panel that is disposed between the display panel and a light source of light to be emitted to the display panel and includes a plurality of dimming pixels. When one of the pixels produces an output at highest luminance and the other pixels produce an output at lowest luminance to the display panel, the light is transmitted through a predetermined one of the dimming pixels located on an optical axis of the light that is emitted to the one of the pixels and through the other dimming pixels arranged around the predetermined dimming pixel. A degree of transmission of the light through the other dimming pixels decreases as the light is away along one direction from the predetermined dimming pixel, and there are a plurality of directions having different degrees of the decrease.

Abstract: A display device includes: a display panel with pixels; a dimming panel with dimming pixels; and a light source. When a pixel is controlled to be lit in white and a predetermined condition is satisfied, a blurring region is formed, and light from the light source is transmitted through the blurring region and the pixel. When a pixel is controlled to be lit up in white and the predetermined condition is not satisfied, the blurring region is not formed, the dimming pixel overlapping the pixel on a straight line along a direction in which the display panel faces the dimming panel is controlled to transmit light, and light from the light source is transmitted through the dimming pixel and the pixel. The predetermined condition is satisfied when the pixel controlled to be lit in white is at a predetermined distance or farther from an outer edge of a display area.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes: a display panel having a display area provided with pixels; a dimming panel disposed so as to face the display panel and having a dimming area provided with dimming pixels; and a light source configured to emit light that travels from the dimming panel toward the display panel. When a pixel among the pixels is controlled to be lit up in white, blurring processing is applied so as to cause more than one of the dimming pixels including a dimming pixel overlapping the pixel to transmit light, and light from the light source is transmitted through the blurring area and the pixel. The blurring area is determined based on a positional misalignment with respect to a predetermined positional relation between the display area and the dimming area.

Abstract: A display device includes: a first panel comprising pixels; and a second panel having a plate surface provided substantially parallel to a plate surface of the first panel. The plate surface of each of the first and second panels includes a curved surface. When the curved surface is a convex portion and two pixels controlled to transmit the light through the first panel are located in the convex portion, a distance between centers of two predetermined regions to which a blurring processing is applied corresponding to the two pixels is set smaller than a distance between the two the pixels. When the curved surface is a concave portion and the two pixels controlled to transmit the light through the first panel are located in the concave portion, the distance between the centers of the two predetermined regions is set larger than the distance between the two the pixels.

When any of the pixels is controlled to transmit light in accordance with an input image signal, blurring processing is applied, a blurring area is formed, and light from the light source transmits through the blurring area and the pixel controlled to transmit light and is emitted from the first panel. When a straight line connecting a user viewpoint and the pixel controlled to transmit light has an angle relative to a normal to the first panel, a center of the blurring area is at a position shifted to a side opposite to a reference normal side relative to the normal to the first panel passing through a center of the pixel. The reference normal is a normal to the first panel passing through the viewpoint.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes: a first liquid crystal panel; a second liquid crystal panel; a light source configured to emit light; and a controller configured to control the first liquid crystal panel and the second liquid crystal panel based on an image signal corresponding to a resolution of the second liquid crystal panel. The first liquid crystal panel includes dimming pixels, and the second liquid crystal panel includes pixels. More than one of the pixels is arranged within a region of each of the dimming pixels. The controller performs blurring processing and determination of dimming gradation values as processing related to operation of the second liquid crystal panel. Each of the dimming gradation values corresponds to a highest gradation value set after the blurring processing among gradation values set for the more than one pixel arranged within the region of each of the dimming pixels.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal panel having pixels with a first electrode and a second electrode; a control circuit; and a counter. The number and an arrangement of pixels where a potential of the second electrode is higher than that of the first electrode in a first mode equal the number and an arrangement of pixels where the potential of the first electrode is higher than that of the second electrode in a second mode. The counter increases a count while the panel operates in the first mode, and decreases the count while the panel operates in the second mode. The control circuit operates the panel in the first mode when the count at a determination timing is not greater than a first threshold, and operates the panel in the second mode when the count at the determination timing is not less than a second threshold.
